auto hanging second
My wifes 02 has a pretty well built trans with all billet shafts and 4 disk billet convertor. The line pressures are bumped up quit a bit and it shifts pretty firm. In the last few weeks it has tooken to hanging in second and not wanting to upshift. You have to let off of the throttle to get it to up shift and clear out sometimes before it will go into drive. This is the only gear it has problems in. What would cause this? Thanks

Governor pressure solenoid.
JBody is no joke, one of the more bright and experienced here. I had this same thing happen to my 2001 about three years ago, very annoying.
Wait, mine wouldn't drop back out of second........

this topic will usually bring arguments that IF this adjustment is necessary or not. If the band is in adjustment, short of major trans failure, it will stay in proper adjustment. What I usually find is that often they can be on the loose side from the factory, or just plain mis-adjusted for some reason. A couple times a year (more sometimes) I'll see trucks come in with the complaint that "you have to let off the go pedal before it will make the 1-2 shift". With this I usually end up dropping the pan, valve body and find the kickdown band adjuster laying on top of the valve body. It's funny they will shift ok that loose until they just "fall apart". What I usually suggest is to drop the pan on the first service, clean the pan, r/r filter and adjust the bands at that time.
I adjust my trucks bands about every 30k
.....I check the racecars bands about every 30 passes.

Mine is the 2-3 shift causing problems, the thread seems to be talking about the 1-2 shift. Does the 2-3 also use a band for shifting. I am going to call the guy who built it today and see what he thinks.

The trans guy said it probably was the shift solonoid not working right. Said he had seen alot of these go bad. I put it on a computer and it said the speed sensor in the rearend was bad. I wonder if this could play havoc with the computer not knowing when to shift? I'm going to put the rearend sensor in first and hope, it's the easiest thing and needs to be fixed anyway.

Finally got it apart, what I am going to call the leverage arm that engages the band broke where the pin goes threw it and was laying in the pan. The trans has to come out!! What a bummer. It will get a billet lever before it goes back in.
