Ats Tc
Does anybody know if a triple disc ats torque converter in a 48re will fit in a 47re tranny. A guys got a used ats triple disc tc that he pulled out of a 2003 ctd. Will it fit in my 2000? What does everybody think about the ats tc's? And does anybody know what to look for when buying a used tc? Thanks for any help.

With the work involved in changing a torque converter, I personally would not fool around with a used converter. To me its only worth core price.

Call ATS like mentioned above and see what rebuild cost would be. Ask the seller when it was bought to see if it is still in warranty.....I doubt it though with 38,000 miles on it. You may just want ATS to inspect it, see if they charge you for that? I do know a lot of the parts translate from the 48 to the 47 and vice versa but as mention, a good question to ask ATS.
What's a used TC worth? I don't know. That's really up for you to decide but sounds decent. What do they go for new? If the tranny went down in a failure, might not be such a good deal though. Tranny is a hard place to judge the worth of used parts unless you know what the life of the truck was and the owner's maintenance, etc. ATS makes great stuff, but it can break like anyone else's if abused or not maintained properly. I think the main thing I would feel confident buying in a used prndl are billet shafts.
Good luck in your research.

I just did my 45,000 mile fluid change and it is still as tight as the day I got it.
I have worked this thing hard... I actually stopped in Denver to have mine installed and was toting a trailer at the time. I worked it as soon as they handed me the keys and haven't stopped since.

47re and 48re converters do have internal differences. However if converter was modified it will fit either. 48re has additional sealing ring on stator support that 47re does not. I would wonder why it was removed. Will it meet your use and driving needs.

I'm really just wanting to increase my HP and torque for recreational purposes. I don't do much hauling. Just 1000lbs of corn to the deer lease once a month and some protien feed and thats about it. I'm trying to get about 450 HP and want to make sure my tranny holds up to it since its got 180K on it already. It has a new RV TC installed about a year ago but I doubt it will handle that amount of HP. Thanks for all the input. If anybody else has got some more to add I would appreciate it.
