APPS filter

APPS filter
Hi folks!
I do post this in aftermarket and accessories because I think somebody will be able to make an accessory out of it.
I have read about some people who said that the cold weather reflash doesn't work on their 24V. I also read in the TSB that it will deactivate as soon as the APPS says anything else than 0 . So I took a scantool and wathced my RAM- even though I didn't touch the go pedal the APPS sometimes read a tad away from 0- sometimes up to 10%. I thought that this might be the cause for some problems. The true idle speed is not affected by this, because the APPS signal is generated by the Cummins ECM, which takes its input from the APPS.
To keep it on topic. I made a filter consisting of 2 capacitors and a coil with a ferrite core and placed it in this circuit. Since then I have the APPS as seen by the PCM at 0 rock solid at idle. The device delays actual throttle input a bit ( less than 1/10 of a second typically)
I'll post a sketch of the filter soon.
The filter also made my tranny shift more consistently, regarding holding lockup, speed for going into OD etc.

Re:APPS filter
Did you use a pi type filter? We've see some "noise" induced problems on some of our thermal imaging systems. we ended up with a dual pi filter on our battery power conditioners. It's amazing what havoc a 25mv noise level has when you're looking for a 100mv signal.

shortround out

I don't know what a pi-type filter is. ( Baaad english)

Pic will be up soon ( I hope)

Yep SNR can be a PIA .. .

What I found is that if you filter too much you'll mask out the delta U that you wanna read.. not enough filtering means delta U from undesired sources.

AlpineRAM

Hey top delta U not Delta Force. I know that these guys know how to quiet a signal but I think it would be too quiet then

Anyways there is a pic for all too see. And if you have na old PC or a radio you'll find the needed components. ( If you buy them you'll end up spending about 2 US$ )

Connect in parallel to the pins on the pcm that are on the scetch.

HTH

AlpineRAM

Re:APPS filter
You are correct Alpine in Delta Being able to work a very quiet signal However I can attest to the fact that an entire team of Delta individuals could not quiet 1 angry wife when we came in late

I smell the beer !

But since a Delta brigade would be good for quieting some signals... how can I fit them under the hood... to keep them trained I could reduce my fuel consumption... voila the Flintstone RAM
;D

AlpineRAM
