Anyone using a power inverter?
I'm looking to add a power converter in my cab. Not sure if under the rear seat is the best place or under the middle seat/passenger seat is better. I don't really want the kind that plugs into the 12-volt outlet but rather the kind that wires direct and can handle higher draw. What type did you chose and where did you put it?
Thanks

If you are just looking to have power where your truck is, for powering lights, tools, etc you might want to think about mounting your inverter in your toolbox. If you do that, just make sure to protect the wires from getting cut on the toolbox if you drill a hole.... can make for a nice welding demonstration otherwise....
Make sure you put a main fuse on the supply wire near the battery.
Here is a nice one that will crank out some serious power for you.

I run a 3000watt/surge is 5000. I run it in my tool box with shielded 0 wire from batterys. Then I run a shielded wire with plug into my cab for use. The one that durasmack recommends will do what most will use it for. Mine is overkill but it was a freebie from a friend so I went with it. He used it in his over the road truck when he was driving and wanted a big one to run everything. Just be sure that all the wires are good and shielded. Goodluck,,Rick

There was a recent thread on this. It sounds like you have to be careful you don't get the wrong type. (square wave output). Check out this thread:

I am thinking about upgrading my current inverter setup. decided against the true sine wave (money better spent on a nice generator before that) but another modified sine wave will be good. I will likely get that one I posted from costco.
What I am looking for are some suggestions for batteries. Should I replace my starting batteries with some optima starting/deepcycle, or leave the current batteries, or leave the current batteries, add an isolator, and add one or two aux. deep cycles for the inverter when the truck isnt charging?
If I add batteries, do you have any ideas on where to locate them? vent the toolbox and mount in there? other mounting locations? If I take this route, I may use the aux batteries to power amps for subs as well.
