Anyone pulling w/out billet output and intermediate?

Anybody pullin' w/out billet output and intermediate shafts? I've got a built Goerend trans, billlet input, laminated flexplate, triple lock 15 blade stator converter (which Dave said is a good pulling converter). I really don't want to bust an intermediate shaft and ruin the tranny. Pulled last weekend and I don't have the temp gauge hooked up yet, but I pulled in High range (stupid) and the tranny fluid smelled like it was hot. Was planning on hooking up a lockup switch, but Dave said I'd be risking breakage w/out a billet intermediate and output. BUT, w/out locking it up, the temps skyrocket.

Thinking about pulling again but in low range, and possibly getting a double deep pan to help cool, and keeping it unlocked. At least until I strike it rich and can afford to get the billet shafts installed. Thanks- Josh

From my understanding most with auto trannies pull using low range. They lock the converter in third gear and let the trans shift by itself. When the truck lugs down to around 1800 rpm they unlock the converter and finish the pull.

I'd try pulling in low range next time. Seems like high range would just be too high for doing that and thus heat the crap out of you tranny!

And from what I've been told and seen it is more rare to break the intermidiate shaft than the input or output. So if anything I'd do the output next and then the intermidiate when you get the money.

I am pulling with the stock intermediate shaft, but have billet input and output shafts and billet flexplate. Low range 2nd gear and rev the ... out of it. Equals about 30mph wheel speed in my truck. Oh and I lock the TQ converter at about 3500 rpms and leave it locked til the end.

Just my $.02
