I for one am not a big fan of electrical gauges. I went through 3 sets of fuel pressure senders (one of them cost me $450 in a new fuel system setup) and 2 boost pressure senders. All with in 2 years of owning the gauges.

I'd suggest mounting the sending unit up on the firewall or someplace other than the engine. My first one was shaken, not stirred, to death. Moved it up on the firewall over two years ago and have not had any problem with it since. One important item is your ground, make sure you have a good one.

mine was too simple. It's inline on my vulcan kit, used the adapter included w/ the kit. But, the sender should thread into your fuel filter box, in the test ports.

When it came to routing the wires through the firewall I cut them and used the same grommet and for the pyro and boost. It became a tight fit, but it works like a charm. To fit the sender you'd have to drill something like a 1/2" hole. I couldn't find a spot to drill a hole that large, easily. So, I got lazy and shoved the pyro, boost and fp gauge all through the boost grommet.

I'm running the Z-series 0-30 electric fuel pressure gauge. I removed the service/test port on the Vp44 and bought a bigger banjo bolt with a open threaded end to put the sending unit into. It was quite simple install. Then the harness just plugs in once the sender is installed into the banjo. Here is were I got the Banjo bolt.

I hope this helps, Tye.

No need to remove the cover. Its real simple to install. Look down @ the Vp-44 and you'll see the test port, it should have a black plastic cap cover on. When you get the new bolt from dieselinnovations, install the Autometer sender into the new bolt, remove the test port from the Vp, replace the brass gasket with the new ones (supplied with new bolt), install the new bolt (do not overtighten), and plug in the harness from the fuel gauge. It is super easy. Also when you buy the bolt from dieselinnovation they will give you instructions on this proceedure, and they will talk you through the install over the phone. The guys there a great.

what is stopping me from putting it on top of the fuel filter canister in one of those test ports? is that not as good as on the vp44?

xj_punk,

The old style Auto Meter FP gauegs were not really set up for the Dodge, they used ot have only a 0-15 PSI and the operation was a little shall we say weak! They have recognized the need to be "IN" the diesel market and the current 0-30 or 0-100 PSI FP systems are really pretty bullett proof, we have been selling them for over a year now with 0 problems. It is approx 50.00 more than a mechanical gauge with an isolator and hose kits, but you have almost 0 worries for leask, just the sending unit, and the install is LOTS easier. They currently have FP gauges in the Z , Ultra Lite, Phantom, Sprot Comp,Cobalt, C2 and Nexus styles. Call us if you have any questions etc.

just talked to dieselinnovations and ordered the banjo set.
i think i want to get some more fittings and mount it solid to like the fender or something, but that would require making a custom hose/line.
what do you guys think? they say in the instructions that vibration can ruin senders.

Something took mine out twice before I switched...should be easy enough to build a connector hose...the Banjo should have an 1/8" NPT port for the fuel guage...you can probably find everything you need from a hardware store or auto parts store...
