MSing is running an Espar, which is a coolant heater. I'd love to have one for winter, but they are pretty pricey ($2k last time I priced an Espar).

Since those heaters are running on AC power I wonder how they can be any better than the stock block heater. With the stock block heater the coolant recirculates due to convection (hot rises) warmed coolant makes it everywhere in the system without need for a pump.

I didn't even look to see how they are powered, I just assumed off of fuel (like the espar and blueheats). Looking at the specs on those heaters, they are running 240+ volts. First blurb on the page says made for gen-sets, marin and locomotives, and range from 10L+. Too big for a ram.

holy crap 2 grand for an espar, must be made of gold .I install them at work and a combo kit (air and water) we install them for around 2700. We did a jeep with a diesel motor awhile ago. totaly custom in stall and it did not cost that much. also the guy just loves it heats the truck up in no time. don't have one on my truck yet, thought it is in the works.

I guess I should have mentioned that the price was installed. The shop didn't give me a quote on just the unit like I asked.

Still installed that price is kinda steep. + the espar in our kit is the same as the ones for the big trucks (D5LC) so it heats the motor with ease. the kit made for the trucks only uses the D4LC with has less capicty, and parts are not widely carried. just to let you know. Is that the only shop in the area, maby try a diffret shop, or install one your self. (pretty easy) (well kind of)
