anyone ever by pass the trans water to oil cooler on the block?

was wondering if anyone tried to eliminate the cooler on the side of the block and just run another cooler for the trans, this way the trans temp will not affect the coolant temp and would let the truck run cooler on hills in theory, ive seen aftermarket coolers with a fan on it any one running these and how are they doing it,eliminating any of the stock coolers?how much difference and how about a magtec pan do you loose any temp in the trans by going to one of them, thanks for info guys

Hmm. how are your trying to relate the coolant to engine oil cooler in the block to trans temp?

The heat exchanger involves coolant and tranny fluid, not motor oil. The way it's designed, the heat exchanger removes heat from the transmission fluid when it is hot enough. Unfortunately it doesn't remove enough heat, so you have the external transmission cooler. I have heard of people bypassing the heat exchanger, but they did it so their twin turbos would fit.

If you are,nt installing twins leave it on

When I bypassed it I noticed a big jump in tranny temperature. It is very efficient at getting rid of heat it also has a check valve in it to keep the converter charged. It also warms the fluid in extreme cold.Tranny fluid does have an operating temp.. I did find myself having to install an additional cooler to compensate for the loss of the heat exchanger so if you dont have to get rid of it don,t. Merv
