Sorry if this has been mentioned before, I spend most of my time here on the 1st Gen forum, but I also have a "sloppy Steering" 01

They've been around for a while... made by several different companies now... search DSS and you'll see.

They help, but if its something like your ball joints, they won't... In other words, they are helpful provided the rest of your front end is good (ball joints, trac bar, TREnds, etc.)

Ball joints in 2nd gen are garbage. No way around it. Everything else if just a bandaid.

That one looks less beefy than this because this has a solid square tube vs just a bent lip across the front. DSS or here too DSS

Just google "dodge DSS" and you'll see a bunch of them.

They stiffen things up a lot and definitely help, I had one on my 2001 from new. That may not be your problem though. Could be worn links, rods, bushings or steering box. My 01 had a bad steering box from new. The dealer played at adjusting it, too tight, too lose, too bad. I changed out the steering box while still under warranty after I did the input bearing adjustment and the problem kept coming back.

It'll take more than a DSS to fix your sloppy steering, unfortunately.

You are probably lookin at ball joints, trac bar, tie rod ends and maybe even control arm bushings.

I'd check all that out first before adding the stabilizer.

Thanks guys. Probably just worn out susp parts. I did break a track bar a few years ago which I replaced, but other than that it's probably all original. Guess I was looking for a magic wand.

I have one similar on my 95.It ended the steering box frame flex and the wonder in my truck. I found it wondered much more towing my five and was scary handling. After I installed it the truck was never the same. I think they work great . two fingers on the wheel and the truck goes where it`s pointed.

I put one one on my truck and my boys truck purchased on ebay and was a perfect fit and easy install, was even able to not disturb the front receiver hitch I have. I did it for longevity of the steering box with the big tires we have. I also have the 3rd gen Doug Thuren track bar.

What happened is the Canadian guy who invented the DSS partner ran off with his wife and screwed him on the patent.

Every truck should have one. It won't fix things that are worn out but definitely makes front end parts last way longer.
If you plan on keeping your truck for long you'll be money ahead.

I've got one on mine too. As others have said it isn't going to change the world but it will tighten up the truck if all the linkages are good, especially if there is some play in the pitman arm shaft. Mine was still tight but I'm hoping the brace will keep it that way.

Put one on my '99 and it is like a new truck I did all the ball joints and pitman, idler and rod ends. They needed it but still wandered . The slop was worst in the steering box itself. Play and flex of the frame. The DSS cured it.
