Anybody have a tranny from BD??
Just curious if anybody has or had a tranny from BD?? Not trying to start any kind of wars and I already know all about DTT, ATS, Goerend Bro's, suncoast...etc, so I'm not looking for reasons to go with any of those guys.
If I had all the money in the world this wouldn't be an issue, but I seemed to have forgotten to water that dang money tree again!!!
All I want to know whether these are decent and hold up to decent power. I'm not looking at pounding massive HP out of my truck.......maybe 450 to 500 MAX.......but probably more around the 400 to 450 range.
The reason I ask is one of my buddies is a dealer and can get me a REALLY good deal on it.....and the thoughts of spending $5K or more on a freakin tranny just kills me.
Thanks for any input........

BD's earlier trannies left much to be desired but the new ones are top notch.
Can't beat Goerend's warranty though...

Oh I know, Goerend's warranty is SWEET!! I just hate to spend that much money for a truck I hardly ever drive. And when I do drive it, it's extremely babied.
I'm just looking for something that is beefier than stock but not extremely over kill. I do some towing and with big tires that puts a little strain so that's my biggest concern is holding up for that.
Thanks for you opinions...........keep them coming if you have any........good or bad I'd like to know so I can finally make up my mind.

I have a Goerend converter, but this is my take on this. If your buddy can get you a good enough deal, AND can take care of you if you have any problems with it, then surley its worth a try? Maybe even just buy a VB/TC if your tranny is in decent shape right now. But like I said. If he can take care of you if you have any problems with it, then id say its well worth it if you are getting that good of a deal on it. let us know what you do. BTW; does he not have any trucks you can go for a ride in/drive that have a BD tranny in them? That could help make up your mind.

If you buy a BD tranny get the three year warrantee from them. I've heard lots of stories (good and bad) third and fourth hand, I'm not get into it. I can believe most of them as I knew most of guys at BD a few years ago. I didn't like the BD converter though. After dumping my old BD Lx converter, I got to feel what a good converter should feel. There is less slippage on the lockup converter with my current set-up. My current converter seems to stall higher but is feel more firm/hooked than the old BD converter when the lock-up clutch isn't engaged. Please understand my last tranny was a stock tranny with a BD valve body and BD converter. My current one is a built race piece, it really is like night and day difference. I drove lots of BD trannies, they didn't feel any better than my stock set-up. I'm not a tranny guy. Just ask for a demo ride before purchasing and judge for yourself. Most "good" shops will do this with no issues. The same goes for buying twins. I drove several before I bought, so I had a idea before I purchased. Just food for thought
