Any one run one of these

Made by TST, seams it would be a good deal, wouldn't have to worry about mounting the Pyro & Boost guages that way, also cut power if PYRO temps get too high. But is the performance any good?

Re:Any one run one of these
We've got a few recent TST upgraders on the forum, and they have all been extraordinarily happy with the product.

While I don't have any experience with the digital gauged remote (I intensely dislike digital gauges, and automatic defueling), I have sold and installed a few TST PM3's and PM3 Competiton versions. Here's our findings:

The TST is a much more aggressively fueled box on the top end. It only develops about 5 degrees advance on the timing side, versus a Comp with 10 - 12 degree. This aggressive fueling also means that a TST box will typically generate more HP than a Comp, but only after you've put a turbo to the truck, or aggressive injectors. On a stock truck, you'll probably see very similar numbers from either a Comp or TST PM3.

The Comp, due to its aggressive timing, will typically deliver your HP with lower EGTs and on lower power settings, you'll probably get better fuel economy.

Either box is fantastic. I recommend the TST for the 400 HP and up crowd, since it can be stacked with an EZ (or comparable box). For the 400 pony and down crowd, stick with the Edge product, unless you want the digital gauges and the automatic defueling.

Rod

Yeah, What Rod said. I have the TST Powermax 2 installed and couldn't believe the power increase. I bought mine used and got a GREAT deal on it. Less than half the price and it was only 1 year old. I have Autometer Phantom guages now but am considering the remote with the guages. I want the remote and would like the guages off of the pillar. I also plan on stacking an EZ but that will be after a set of injectors and a new clutch. Oh yeah...lift pump seems to "surge" under hard acceleration. At first I thought it was the clutch, but seems to be it isn't getting enough fuel fast enough. Is this a common problem? I think I may install a booster pump along with a replacement lifter pump.

Ron about said it all, except they don't add nearly that much timing. I've heard from a bunch of sources that the comp & EZ add only 1 to 1 1/2 degree of timing while the TST box only effectively adds about half of that (through the longer fueling time). I believe the TST box has a nicer fuel curve and when stacked with an EZ/TTPM/CPC will easily outperform a Comp box. I don't have the digital gauge setup either (i also prefer the analogs), but the auto defueling at 1300 sounds like a nice setup.

John

I run my TST PM3 stacked with a Van Aaken for the timing, and it's incredible. Seems to have more bottom end thanks to the VA box...
I'm going to hook up an EZ Edge later on, in place of the Van Aaken, for comparision purposes. Maybe even dyno runs...

At full throttle, you'll see these lower timing advances in order to keep the head gaskets in the truck. However, under light throttle conditions, both companies are aggressive on the timing in order to maintain fuel economy.
Just to be sure of my numbers, I double checked with Edge and TST, and I discovered that I was a little low on both numbers. I won't repeat the numbers that Edge or Mark Chapple told me, as I'm not sure if its a company secret.
