What is negative about a #8 plate? I see everyone recommending a 10, 0, 100, or maybe a 6 but not an 8. Why? I have one and if I need something else, I would like to know what is wrong with it. I have read most everything on here about fuel plates, but never see much about the 8, Smokin DZL said he didn't think he would like an 8, but doesn't indicate why. I tow some, but mainly use my truck as a daily driver, my EGTs get around 12-1250 pulling my load up the N. Ga mountain grades, but only when I insist on running 65-70 in OD locked up. That is what caused my TC to go south in the first place, and I guess I should learn, but it is OCD. I just have to push down the skinny pedal. My wife keeps asking what the hurry is.
I do have a slight lull in power on takeoff, but it actually makes the takeoff smooth instead of snatchy like I think it would be without the lag. The torque converter has no lag at all, so if the engine revved quick, I think the tires would break loose all the time. I already have trouble when the truck pulls over 15-1600 RPM in the rain, the tires break loose, and QUICK!
Let me know,
Chris

I had a #8...loved it 'till I installed the GSK! Gave me all the power right between 1750-2250. Ifter the GSK, it was lame...had no guts anymore. If I had thought about it, I would've tried adjusting the Governor arm...but I just bought a #10, and sold the #8

#100 is what I'm running now...might try a zero too!

Nothing except that it has steps instead of the smooth curve of a #10. When you are really putting the pedal to it the steps are very evident whereas the the 10 is smooth.

Plate

So how would a #10 plate compare to my #8 for towing? My #8 is good for towing except for steep grades. My EGT's will get hot fast if I do not regulate my right foot. Would a #10 be worse for EGT's when towing? I do not tow on a regular basis....

I would say my 10 fuels harder at the start but I did the GSK kit and bumped the timing to 16 at the same time I did the plate so its hard to say how much difference the plate made by itself?
