any issue with piecing together a lift with components

i want to build a 4" front, 3" rear lift for my 2500

i already have 2" spacers up front...and i want to add

2.5" coils
2.5-3" rear leafs, or add-a-leafs
drop pitman arm
track bar upgrade and drop mount
longer shocks
possibly longer control arms

anyone think this is a bad idea and that i should just go ahead and spend all the cash on a full out lift kit and pay for the name and shiny paint with a logo?

IMHO, you're much better off piecing together.

Kits are great for the average joe, but don't always include the best of everything.

Drop Cowhand a PM. He did the same thing you are trying to do and is so far very happy with it.

2.5" coils - Ditch the spacers and go with a 4" coil. Only $50 more or less for a 4" vs. 2.5" coil. You can sell the spacers for $100 and come out money ahead.

2.5-3" rear leafs, or add-a-leafs - 2" rear AAL is ~$50
drop pitman arm $65 anywhere
track bar upgrade and drop mount $270.....best track bar out there http://thurenfabrication.com/trackbar.html
longer shocks Bilstein 5100's.....$72 each
possibly longer control arms You're gonna need longer arms with 4" of lift, the stockers are too short. You can go 1/2" longer stock replacements like these http://www.dtprofab.com/large/02007-FULL.jpg for $325 or this http://www.dtprofab.com/SUPER-I.htm for ~$100 more.

You'll also need longer u-bolts and center pins. There are some miscellaneous small brackets for the vacuum disconnect lines, brake lines, etc. that you'll have to relocate. You can bend up a few pieces of 1/2" flat stock on a bench vice and attach with 1/4-20 bolts. For the sway bar, I simply flipped it over and bolted it back on. Works fine.

What size tire do you want to run? This set up will clear 325's or 35's pretty easy. Might be able to squeeze 36's in there.
