I have a 95 Auto and did my own, it was the cost of wire and a switch and some time running the wire. This is the info I used when I did mine. I am sure if you do a search for Lock UP or LOCK UP SWITCH you will find some good info.
My plug was on the fire wall on the passanger side.

thats alot more cost effective!! I got a towing question for ya. how well does the switch work, I tow a TT up too the Va mountains a couple times a year
"nothing like were your from" and one grade is long and curvey my trans and EGTs go way up and the water temp will rise up to 230 if I stay in it to long will the switch work well in climbing these grades or is it to much to have the
TC locked up under this kinda load. Im new to towing so any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Mike

Yep; just do the switch. Works great. I only use mine while pulling to keep the truck locked up in 3rd or 4th gear. If your VB is set up for it; you can probably put your gear selector in 2nd, and lock the converter, and run along with the converter locked in 2nd. If you keep the TC locked it will definately keep your tranny much much cooler on the hills, and should keep your engine cooler too. Also coming down hills it helps to slow down the truck. Its at least worth it to try, and if you dont like it; then take it off. I dont reccomend locking the converter with a load in 1st, and letting it shift up through 4th locked, but there is no problem in getting it in the gear you want, and locking it. Good luck

It looks good in theory, but the converter needs pressure to keep the clutch applied firmly, and that higher pressure isn't there when your foot's not on the throttle. (The throttle valve is used to boost lockup pressure) I'd be afraid of slippage and additional heat buildup on decel.
