Any gains from the stock straight piped 3" to aftermarket 4"?

Well I could have put money on it.....

Finally I was able to order a Magnaflow 4" exhaust. Came yesterday and I had intentions of putting it on that day so that I could work out the bugs over the weekend before I needed to take the truck somewhere I had planned next week. But.....just as I was fearfully expecting, there was problems. First off the stock exhaust would not come out without cutting it in half. Not wanting to re-install it, I had no qualms about hack-sawing it in the middle. Not a big deal but clearly meant that if I couldn't get the new system in then the truck is parked until I can.

First thing I noticed was how MASSIVE the new exhaust was in comparison. I'm really curious to see how this affects the EGT's since there was some really compressed bends in the stock 3" pipe which looked well in the 2.5" range or smaller.

So as I forged ahead I came across a problem. It seemed that that the pieces of the kit only put together in such a manner that it was either 12" too short or 12" too long. And it was missing a 4" clamp as well. So I have to measure and cut that extra long pipe length and then get a another clamp before I can put it all together. Unfortunately the vendor I got the kit from says that they can do nothing and Magnaflow is closed for the weekend so I cant even call them. Yeah..... Looks like I cant do anything until I get ahold of Magnaflow on Monday morning and see if they can overnight another clamp to me, since there's not really any place who carries beefy 4" clamps like that around here.

I have a great idea..... How about the products they sell "FIT" properly and include "ALL" of the parts. That sounds strangely too logical given all the installation issues I've read about on these forums. At least I dont feel alone.

Sorry to hear that man, I have to say my MBRP kit fit like a glove, the only hassle was you had to drill the frame at the back for the tailpipe mount, and it was a total pain, that frame rail material is tough.

I have about the same truck as you, 01, 6speed with a EZ. I dropped about 100 Deg.f. It has helped me be able to use some more power when towing my 12K lb high profile fifth wheel. I ordered a SS 4in unit w/muffler off Ebay. Works well, and doesn't drone/make a lot of noise except over 2.1K RPM.

Mine was a MBRP too, and it went on well, but I didn't have to drill the frame. Only cut a two pipes shorter, and used the stock locations to hang it.

Yea, I think you only had to do it on 98 and older trucks, something like that.

Good to know. I finally got another clamp so I'll have it together tomorrow and test it pulling this weekend. Hopefully the difference is significant.
