Another Turbo Thread....Which one for me??
I know this topic has been discussed a million times, but I am looking for replies specific to my set up.
I am in the process of adding the horses. We did the tranny upgrade and 4in exhaust last weekend. I installed a Comp also. I have a set of Mach 1.5s on the way. FASS system is on the bench in the garage waiting to go on.
Needless to say, my wallet worn out and my wife only says two or three words to me a day.
Being that my truck is an Auto and has a hy35, I am pretty much set way behind when it comes to upgrading the turbo. I was hoping that I could hold off a while on the turbo, while my wallet recovers, but it seems the turbo will have to come faster than I expected. I ran the truck this weekend empty on 5X5 and stomped on it while going up a bridge. I watched the pyro gauge go into the red. I expected that result after the injectors, but not before.
What is my best reasonable turbo option?
I am looking into a used hx35 with a wastegated 14cm housing. I haven't heard back from the gentleman yet, so I am not sure if this is a tangible option. I would send this to htt turbo to get the 35/40 hybrid conversion.
If this doesn't come through, what are other options for under a grand. Keep in mind, I will have to buy an exhaust housing as my stock one will not work.

You might want to see if you can get an old H1C or WH1C. They aren't in high demand so they're usually pretty cheap. HTT sells a similar hybrid conversion for these turbos that's a bolt-on you can do at home. Combined with a 16 cm exhaust housing it would be a good cheap setup that should handle 300 - 350 RWHP. Total cost should be under $600.
