Another Gauge Install ?

I have gauges!!!

1. I've searched and searched this forum for boost gauge install info. I have found NO pictures on mounting locations for boost bolt. I read where the locations are...but can't see it in my head...or on the truck. I have seen tapping the intake elbow, and running it there. Which one is easiest? and most effective? Boost gauges read intake manifold pressure, am I correct?

Pics, or links to pics...diagrams not helping. I have installation stuff from TST...it's a drawing, and it seems the pressure port is underneath the elbow...and it doesn't show a black cover...is it under the black cover?

Again...what's easiest and most effective?

2. Fuel pressure isolator...do I mount this on the "clean side" of the filter?

Thanks

Im not sure if the boost bolt is in the same location on yours as it is on my 01 but look slightly to the left MAP sensor. There is a large plug there that you can remove and get a fitting to go there and tap into to. Works great for mine.

Cant help you with the fuel pressure isolator as I dont run one. I have copper tubing instead of the crappy plastic and its never failed me.

I don't suppose you could snap a pic of the location for me? I'll be putting everything together this weekend, and I would help if I had a visual aid.

Heres a pic of the boost bolt. The instructions I had said not to tightn it to more then 12 foot pounds. And the isolator mounted to the firewall on the drivers side. I tee'd into my fuel just before the injection pump, you can also use a banjo bolt, but I just cut the line and put a teee in it. Definetly go on the clean side of the filter. Hope this helps

not much else info. You got to fill the top of the isolator with antifreeze. Any other questions I'll try and help.

Also when you stacked the tst with the van aaken which one plugs to the motor first? Just asking cuz Im about to stack a tst with an ez. Thanks

Tst

That I am not sure of. I guess try it one way, and if it's not working well enough, try the other. I don't have the TST as of yet, it's in transit. I think if we contact TST, they will be able to tell us which one runs through the other.

ok thanks I'll keep checking around I believe the ez or van aaken would hook to the motor first. I was thinking of calling tst anyways becouse Im thinking of getting them to upgrade it to the comp edition.

Gauges in!! WaHooo!!!

Thank You mopar-or-no-car for the pic. I put my boost there, works great. I'm a little unimpressed with the boost reading....20 psi?!? That blows!!!, especially since my gauge is 60 psi. Only using 1/3 of the gage. Hope I'll see better when TST in installed. Fuel=power=boost, right?

Don't think I have my thermocouple in deep enough, though, cuz I see around 300° at idle, and around 600°+- at WOT. I didn't, however, run the truck for more that a mile, at best. I'll keep an eye on it tonight, when I'm out and find out for sure. Thanks to all other DTR members who posted information regarding manifold tapping, for all us 's out there.

Fuel pressure was a snap to install. Works like a champ...I get 7 just pump...not running, and 7 at start up...no less than 5 WOT. From what I've read, that's what I should expect.

Hardest part was mounting the gauges and running the lines.

Thanks again to all

For your EGT gauge...300 at idle is ok. If you let it just sit there an idle for awhile I think it drops down to around 250ish. The 600 at WOT seems to low though, IMO. When I had a BHAF and 3" downpipe to 5" straight at WOT I was seeing 1000 I believe...

Mine idles at about 3-4 hundred and on the freeway a little over 600 if i step on it really hard it can get up to 1000 or maybe a bit more.

Just got back from hunting a 1/8 NPT tap...borrowed one and can't find it. Got one at ACE Hardware. Home Depot, Lowes, Sears hardware, Autozone, O'Reiley, and Parts America don't carry them...I was later told to go to NAPA...little late though.

Anyway,...600-700 when I step on it, and 300 at idle, little less if I idle for a while. Pretty impressive how cool these engines run.

Angry fuel pressure gauge

The fittings they gave me in the kit for the fuel pressure gauge suck!!! I can't for the life of me get them to seal. I've been through at least 5 of those little oval thingy's each side. Pressure will hold for a few days, then drop off. Refill, try again...refill, try again...refill..... I can't seem to find anything else that would work. Hardware stores, auto part stores, noting...

Any Ideas? I know I'm not the only one with or has had this issue. I'm about to JB weld the connections................

Swagelok compression fittings are MUCH better than hardware store junk. They use a cone on one end and a flat on the other of the center compression sleeve. Local supply house, Ebay, or McMaster Carr.
