Question Amsoil air filters

A friend of mine recommended the Amsoil air filter to replace the K&N that's been in my 1998 (first half 12 valve) since I bought it in late 2002. This truck is my first Dodge diesel and I've heard mixed feedback on the K&N's. At this point I've had two people (one an experienced diesel mechanic) say to use them and three not to use them due to filter box fit issues. Since I have an expensive powerplant I don't want to take any chances. Any suggestions, opinions on this?

I have had bolth and I prefer the amsoil filter. The amsoil filter is easyer to clean, the oil that you get from amsoil for the air filter is alot stickier then the k&n. The amsoil filter dries faster. the bad part about the amsoil filter is that it is black so you cant really tell how dirty it is.

If you have fit issues with any stock drop in style filter grease is your answer, I have a hard time thinking K&N is not so good since my dad was running them on his track bike circa 1960's and they are still around. IMO that says enough. The one thing you must remember is to properly maintain any reuseable filter.

you pay for the amsoil. I'm sure it's a better filter.

I HAVE USED AMSOIL IN ALL MY CARS INCLUDING MY RAM. IF YOU LOOK AT THE AMSOIL AND K&N AIRFILTERS THROUGH BOTH THE WEBSITES AND THE PAPERWORK FOR BOTH THE AMSOIL PAPERWORK SHOWS IT IS BETTER AND THE K&N PAPERWORK SHOWS IT IS BETTER. I RUN A K&N FILTER NOW JUST BECAUSE I HAVE FOUND THAT THE K&N DOES HAVE BETTER AIRFLOW THAN THE AMSOIL FOAM FILTER AND YOU CAN FEEL IT WHEN YOU PUT YOUR FOOT ON THE PEDAL.
