I've had aluminized on my truck since 2002 and it has no rust. Personally I wouldn't waste the money on stainless. The diesel exhaust isn't as corrosive as gas burners. And mine is a 5 inch system from bigexhaust.com I'm not sure if they are even still in business.

I had Jethot spray a black costing on my Terry Houston Downpipe for my Buick that worked well and handled the EGTs that thing made. It would have the downpipe glowing so hot that you could see through it.

You shouldn't need anything rated for that sort of heat except for the exhaust manifold, turbo exhaust housing, and the first foot or so of the down pipe. By the time you get anywhere near the muffler the temps will have gone down by at least half. If you think about it, EGT's might approach 1600* briefly pre-turbo but they'll be a couple of hundred cooler already at the turbo outlet "elbow". I tried painting the brand new tailpipes and mufflers on a Malibu I used to have but the paint was "blasted" off more than anything else, it definitely didn't burn off so I don't see painting the system as a good solution. Personally, I'd say just hose it off from time to time, if you want to get crazy you can climb under there and wash it sometimes. I think the environment that the exhaust system lives in (under the truck, no sun to dry it, and lots of rain or snow or road salt kicked onto it) is what kills them more than the heat does. My 4" rusted out at the very end, right behind the rear wheel, exhaust heat definitely wasn't the killer there. The funny part is that between the muffler and the turbo it was still in pretty good shape. Sometimes the heat helps more than it hurts because it burns off any water that was clinging to the pipe even when you park the truck for the night. I've changed my driving habits like I mentioned in my previous post so that hopefully the new exhaust will last longer than the old one.

I've found the MBRP on e-bay for $352.79.
Is that a good price, or should I get it from somewhere else?

Thanks
Brad

You shouldn't need anything over 500* paint on the system except you might want to put 1000* on the downpipe. Your EGT's are measured IN the manifold the outside would be cooler than that, and EGT's measured after the turbo are generally 300* cooler than the manifold EGT's...

I weld for a living so metal is my life, and i do a lot of custom exhaust work for friends and other people,, stainless still wont just crack from getting cold,it would have to be cooled off very fast like if u were running it for a while and got it really hot and then ran it through high water and let it sit in it till it cooled,,,, but then then it would then have to be in some type of bind to crack then... Can can take a 1/16 piece of stainless steel weld on it heat it up with a torch to where its glowing and let it cool and its fine,,, i can even cool it with water and its fine its when u cool it in some sort of a hard bind and cool it rapidly,,, and still that doesnt happen often...
go stainless it will last longer and u dont have to patch holes later on,,but eather will work.

on another note i like to replace exhaust very often just to see if i can make it louder or get a different tone out of it,on my last truck i changed the exhaust 5 times in less than a year before i finally got what i wanted, so if u are going to be changing it go with aluminized

Living in Chicago because they use salt in the winters, I only buy the 304 Stainless Systems.
Aluminized systems dont last that long.
I think it has to do with the road salt.
