Allright, I'd like some smoke
Just when I really stomp on it, I'd like a small (or large...I don't care ) amount of black smoke out of my '95.
I didn't (don't) know if there's a simple way to get the amount I want or what, so I figured I'd ask here.

u'll be able to get what u want with all free mods. Ur trucks about the same as mine, and when I ground a 100 plate, moved the AFC and starwheel forward, I got a nice puff when u stomp it. The best smoke is when u let off the throttle and let the rpms drop alittle then stomp it and let off before the truck gets going and u should have a nice puff. So break out the grinder and grind ur plate, move the afc all the way forward and bump the starwheel forward a ways and floor it.

Thanks for the help! I took it apart & cut myself a '100' plate (or close to it) & moved it forward about 3/4 of the way & didn't mess with the starwheel.
The difference:
I'm still all smiles & I don't think I quit laughing all the way through the first test drive (8 mile or so round trip)
The smoke output is nice too
Well....guess its' not "stock" anymore is it? AH WELL!

lol, glad we could help turn another CTD owner to the dark side. Did u move the AFC forward as well? Because thats what gave me some more smoke and bottom end power. Now just keep an eye on ur transmission because thats the one thing that won't like alot of power mods without a better torque converter and VB to hold things better.

pull the AFC spring out and then there is a brass square fitting on the backside of the afc housing if you look inside it it has a little hole drilled in it drill it out bigger to 1/8 in. Like all them said turn the star wheel. also slide the plate like they said. If i were you though i would buy a different 1 i have a piers 0 plate in mine.

I'm taking it easy a bit on the trans; I changed the fluid last week & it didn't look too healthy. I was going to change it again in another 1000 miles or so (about 500 more to go)
I moved the AFC about 3/4 the way forward.
I took a video of my takeoff (there is NO sound - thats' the way my camera is - sorry). It was a little too dark to take videos & I'll try to get another one tomorrow, but you'll be able to see the smoke

No gauges except the factory ones. I just give it a 'shove' every now & then.
I've got the factory trans temp light, thats' it...
I'm guessing I need a trans temp gauge & something to watch EGTs'?

the IC is the intercooler boot just loosen up the screws on the rubber boot going from your turbo to the intercooler and hammer the throttle you should feel a difference fast enough.
by the way your not gonna want to losen your intercooler boot that was just a joke. hahaha just work on things in your AFC housing. thats where you'll get the smoke if you don't wanna spend money

Constant smoke is horrible for our public image, and the reason for most of the negativity towards diesels.
Keep it under control. Some of us would like to keep our hobby.
