To all you Edge Comp guys.
Im ready to get my truck the box its been waitin for. I finally got my FASS II in so I wont have to worry about the fuel pressures. How well do you guys like the comp, do you have it tapped or not? If you have it tapped, how long has it been tapped and have you came across any problems? Im primarily worried about the injection pump. I dont have a warranty on it so thats not my worries, I just dont want to burn another one out. Ive been debating for some time now between the EZ, Comp, and the Smarty. I know a lot of people like the smarty, but thats something I can do myself and I kind of want to reward the guy thats been doing all my work by lettin him put in a box for me, since thats what we both have been working to be able to do. So whats your guy's opinions. I dont want to kill any of my stock components but I want smoke. I dont tow a whole lot and when I do its just stuff my truck can already handle. Im not too worried about mpg, I just want the smoke.

when you tap the pump wire its hit and miss if the vp will last, with your eye on fuel pressure you should be ok.you will definatly get smoke with a comp, look for a used one and run it on ez mode till your bored then try tapping the wire,i got better milage with my comp, the smarty probaly wont give you much smoke, look for a used one and try it out you will always get your money back if you change your mind.

Here is a link, there are others that make them as well. It is a cleaner way of tapping the pump without piercing the wire.

A Comp install will only take you three hours if you are slow and clueless. It seems strange to me that you want to get a box to reward your mechanic, but you are worried about losing the injection pump. If I were you, I'd install the comp by yourself and then reward your mechanic when you need tranny/clutch upgrades or in the next 50,000 miles when your VP44 dies, he can change it for ya. If you want cheap smoke, buy a set of edge jammer 5 nozzles for 233 bucks and pay your mechanic 200 bucks to install them. They will surely smoke like a chimney. Now if you want to be able to turn off the smoke and power at times, get a comp. If you do not have gauges, get a Juice w/ Attitude. I could justify letting a mechanic install a Juice/Att it is more intense since you have to drill and tap the exhaust manifold for an egt probe. Just my two cents. I have a Juice/Att and RV 275 injectors and I can black out intersections if I have the Juice turned up and I am not paying attention to my right foot. More smoke than I could ever use or want.

Im pretty sure I can handle installing it on my own. I know the guy personally, he runs a very reptuable shop and hes always lead me in the right direction when I needed something done or wanted an honest opinion. Thats why I thought it would be nice to let put a box on. Thanks for the opinion with the nozzles, but yes I would rather have something I can turn on and off. But I dont want anything that I will likely cause something to "go wrong".

Knock on wood I've had my wire tapped for 100k miles. It's had two comps, a tst, and a TST COMP on it. They really are hit and miss. Just tap the wire and have fun. Its gonna die, there's no questions about it. So you might as well go ahead and tap it and have fun and stop worrying about it. Life's to short to worry.
