for all with P-pumped 24 valves???
How do you like it? how hard is it to tune? I can get my hands on a pump that can be build for almost nothing and I have wanted to do this but am woried about daily driving. I almost did this befor, but was talked out of it.
I want the P-pump for sled pulling and more power. I would detune the pump for daily driving and then change out DV's and move the cam plate for pulls/ dynos. Give me your input.
Scotty.

Not hard to tune, but harder than a vp. 16 degs. works well. Small twins, Mach 1.2's and 19.2 degs = 575hp. I run an 887 pump that Ponci's did for me. Daily drive is fine, but with a built pump you have to tweak a bit to keep from being smokey. Tweaked(no parts, just tuning) 215 pump and 181's will supply around 750 to 800hp.

The one flaw most make with a P-Pumped 24v when building them is a injector that is way to big and all it does is create smoke and heat with a loss of power.Having been involved with Jetpilot when he was tuning his old 01 ride which he had Piers P-Pump taught both of us lessons. One of them was injector size is critical on these trucks as the large injectors run with a VP44 will not make power with the better flowing P-Pump and will put the fire out.Another lesson was how fast those large injectors killed HP on a dyno.
Timing is also more crucial to these trucks and minor adjustments can loose or gain HP tremendously. On Dougs old Black Bottle Rocket the new owner decided he wanted less timing to drive it everyday and allow it to start easier. The timing was moved from 35 degree downs to 18 degree and it cost them almost 100 hp on the jet.Timing was all that was changed to loose all else was left alone.
IF it was my truck and I wanted to keep street drivability and still have the power to run, pull or play then I myself would leave it as a VP44 and use one of the new Hot Rod pumps. They are easier to detune and allow you a tad better drivability.Once you spend the money and have a P-Pump built you will not want to keep screwing with what your shop has gained on the stand by detuning it to drive on the street.Just my .02 worth.......Andy

I'm gonna have to disagree with you there. I'll take the p-pump over the HRVP anyday. Mine runs great and I've done very little tuning. Set the timing, and it idled great right away (something the HRVP never did). Moved the plate forward, and I've got the fuel now. It may not be optimal, but it runs much better than it did with the VP44. When I get some time off after this job, I'm gonna bump the timing and play with it some more.
