With all this crazy power, has anyone gone to the 1/4?

Are you guys using slicks or street tires. How about some 12 in wide slicks and just use 2wd?? I'm an old time funny car racer but never raced tow trucks .
What about traction bars??? Using them???

Actually there has been quite a few guys over at the TDR that have ripped the center out of their flexplates. I also wait until I make the change from 4X4 to 4X2 and I'm in 2nd gear to lock up the tc clutch. I don't like that 1st to 2nd shift while locked so I wait until it's in 2nd. My truck rolled across the scales at 7116 with a 1/2 tank of fuel and me in it and it's sitting on 285s. I've also got an 11 second Buick T-Type but I enjoy racing the truck more than the car. The announcers and spectators go nuts over the truck.

Have to launch in 4x4! With most of the weight on the front end...and boost built up, the rears just sit there and spin if you don't.
4x4 launch doesn't seem do any harm, believe it or not. Have never heard of anyone tearing up their front end from drag racing.
Huff & Puff/mcoleman - you guys are getting into 2wd without lifting your right foot? Mine won't ?

Well, I tried a little bit last night. It had rained out so the road was a little wet to help things out. I don't have any gauges yet so I have been taking it, somewhat easy. Don't worry, they will come as first true mod when the $$ is here.
But, I didn't build much boost (only brought it up to 1500 - 1700 rpm with Brakes on) before letting it go in 4wd. It did hook up better and seemed to take off ok. But still I have some turbo lag or something as it doesn't really kick in until 1700 rpm or so. I'm just not use to this 48re tranny yet. Seems like a 6 spd most of the time because of the TC locking up. It pulls a lot harder after it does. (I miss my 1st gen's dtt).
I do like how in 2wd and brakes on, it does seem to start smoking those tires rather nicely and leave about 50' or good twin marks.
Time will tell as I get use to driving this beast . Just turned 4000 miles last night. No modes yet other then silencer ring MIA and a nice chromed intake tube for the noise
Gauges to monitor and then some pretty parts (side tubes, new tires, chromey things), then exhaust and different air filter to help it breathe a little.

The 4wd on these trucks work really well
never had a problem YET most of the time it unlocks the shafts between shifts. To Wings,I usually run street tires.I am getting to the power level where all 4 wheels start to break loose stopped that with ladder bars this year, they really help to plant the rear tires.Trying to launch in 2wd with slicks is an exercise in futility cause there is not enough weight in the rear and too much weight in the front to get them to hook.

The Nastalgia slicks are for 16" rims and are 32" tall and 14" wide.

So far my best run has been an 11.85 @ 113.4mph.
Trying to figure out what's next... maybe NX
Not looking forward to putting a cage in an otherwise 100% streetable truck.
Special thanks to Don M at F1Diesel, DTT and John D.

14.08 @ 95 with a 2lb boost launch, anything over that I have massive traction problems. I think it has to do with the lift and no sway bars Have a locker now and I need to go back.

My best time is a 13.19 with a HX40, Jammers 3's, Stock tranny with suncoast convertor, valve body and billet input shaft. Last run i had, i tried 30 lbs of boost and broke the output shaft. Friday night i put in a full billet ATS, maybe we will try 40 lbs next time
