Air flow and BHAF
I have the NAPA BHAF and a smokey mount. How much does this really flow versus the stock air box WITH the little ram air connector in the frront. I am concerned that I am not getting enough air moving into the BHAF. Does it actually suck the air into it, or does it require flowing air moving across it? With the smokey mount, it seems like I am blocking alot of the air movement, but I am also blocking the hot air from the engine. Anyone got any thoughts?

According to fleetfilter.com, the BHAF flows 680 cfm and the stock filter (for a 3rd gen) flows 675 cfm. If these figures are accurate, there cannot be much of a difference in performance. I don't know if the stock filters for 1st and 2nd gens flow as much as the Napa Gold 2846 (Wix) filter that I use.

I'm not questioning the flow rates, but the actual amount of air that is actually flowing over and onto the filter with a smokey mount. With the stock airbox, on the 1st gen at least, there was a small duct that went from the box to just under the bumper. With the BHAF and a smokey box, there is not really that much air flowing over the filter from what I can see. I do love the sound of that turbo with it though.

675?? WHERE does that comes from?? the greatest I've ever read here was 375
And like super said...there alot more to flow than some arbitrary numbers

This is the cfm listed for a Napa Gold 2846 (Wix) on fleetfilter.com. It is a stock replacement air filter for a 3rd Gen.

OK... time to correct this before it gets out of hand.
The BHAF flows 680 CFM at 8 inches of H2O. My source on that is the Donaldson catalog. I've scanned the page and if anyone calls me on it, I'll post the scan.
The stock Dodge filter OEM Dodge flows 510 CFM at 8 inches of H2O. My source on that is the info printed on the filter itself. 19.12m^3/minute at 0.035 bar, which is 675 CFM at 14 inches of H2O. Scaling the flow down to 8 inches of H2O gives 510 CFM. BTW: the stock filter is 99% efficient, as is the BHAF.
I took a picture of the data on the filter and if anyone calls me on it, I'll post the image.
Fleetguard emailed me and stated the flow rate for AF26106 is 452 CFM. This is the Fleetguard replacement for the stock filter. They didn't give me a pressure <yet> so I assume that is at their standard 8 inches of H2O. Their filter might have a higher efficiency.
So the BHAF filter and stock filters have the same efficiency (99% versus 99%) and the BHAF flows 33% (680 versus 510) or 50% (680 versus 452) more air than the stock replacement filters.
PLEASE DO NOT POST FLOW RATES WITHOUT PRESSURE. Please email fleetfilter.com and tell them to fix their numbers. They are misleading without the corresponding pressure.

I don't know if the BHAF flows more air than the stock filter or not, but there have been at least 2 dyno tests, that I'm aware of, which show it looses power to the stocker.

The dyno isn't the real world. There is no airflow to the front of the truck. The intercooler doesn't work as well and the engine compartment is probably a lot hotter. The fan is pulling a lot more air and working harder too.
I suspect the BHAFs aren't as good at getting cool outside air as the stocker is. On the road this isn't a big problem. On a dyno it is.
People should monitor things like boost pressure and air temperature and mass when they drive normally and when they do dyno tests. Then we would know for sure.

The Wix numbers are wrong as I will show shortly.
I am just in the process of uploading pictures. As soon as the moderator approves them, I'll link them here.
I emailed fleetfilter.com today about the error. Notice that neither one of those flow rates had a PRESSURE attached to it. DO NOT QUOTE FLOW RATES WITHOUT PRESSURES. They are meaningless numbers.
Standby for images.
