From what I understand there are a series of fuel maps that can be used with the stock timing or with the catcher timing. The maps range from below stock fueling to catcher fueling and each map is slightly more aggressive than the last. But you can't get a smarty cuz ya got to wait until I get mine =P

Runamuck, I'll try and make the dragstrip meeting, but no can do
on the racing. Clutch started slipping in 6th gear three weeks ago.
Now this week it's slipping in 5th and 6th gear if I get on the throttle
too much

Let's see what can you do with your last $700.00 hmmmm.

Sorry to hear about your clutch!

Pm CASMOKIN as he just put a clutch in his rig maybe he can give you a few ideas.

Hope you can make it anyway!

Hey dieselcamper, what's the problem with your current set-up? I thought the VA and the 275's would be an ideal combo for towing. Maybe spend the dough on a new clutch...

#1 Take out my RV275's and replace with Mach 1.6's
These would go along with my Van Aaken V5

or

#2 Take out the Van Aaken and replace with the Smarty
This would go along with the RV275 injectors

Please no "do both" I can't aford it

how come you asked us how to spend your $700 to help you make more power when you clutch started slipping 3 weeks ago?

Well I was hoping the clutch would last till late Feb/early March. Thats
when the tax refund was going to buy a new clutch. It's probably in my
best intrest to buy the clutch now and use the tax refund for more
power later. It's just more fun to add power than replacing a slipping clutch

HEHE......that sounds like a more appropriate plan! If you think your clutch slips now, wait till the Smarty or 1.6's are in. You wouldn't be able to use any of that additional power if your clutch is already slipping now. FWIW, the 1.6's will add a noticable amount of additional power for towing over the Smarty. The Smarty is good for about 60 hp but the throttle response and drivability are where it really shines......for the largest gain in towing power, 1.6's will be best......combine the sticks with the Smarty and......well, you already know where we are going with that!

You have answered your own question. Buy the clutch. Its more fun to at least be able to use what you have.

Let me tell you what a Catcher and M4s can do to a stock clutch

Anyway, I'd go for the smarty. You can always go with bigger injectors later.

With the "half power" feature of the Smarty, you could probably tow with M6s.

Probably.--jh

For towing I wouldn't go bigger than Mach1.6's, with bigger injectors you can run into egt problems, and have no way to reduce power output from them(except right foot-or timing box will help somewhat) .

Mach 1.6's were designed to tow with, while keeping temps in check, and keeping mileage same or better, and have excellent towing power. Towing even up looooong hills, I top out usually at 1200-1250f pre-turbo, floored up the hill in o.d.. See my sig.

So you finally destroyed your clutch? I'm surprised it lasted this long.

You guys running a contest? From what I've read, I'd put my money on Hohn's clutch before your tranny =P

Both options are spending money twice on stuff you have. Save your money. You can do your taxes early then spend on stuff like fuel system upgrades and a clutch.

Actually, it's still holding on, for the most part. I can get to 35psi with it still.

But the bottom end of the Catcher and the fueling of the M4s will eventually Catch(er) up with me.

But I *can* tell that it's getting soft. Engagement isn't crisp, it's mushy. It used to snap you forward when you dumped the clutch in 1st. Now it just kinda eases into gear just in time to have to shift.

The plan is for a new CON FE sometime this summer, complete with the MEGA pilot bearing from quad4x4. This pilot bearing is freaking unreal, and I'll NEVER have to open up my trans again!! Pic of bearing, which is far right compared to stocker on far left:

I'm trying to follow the "do it once, do it right" method.-jh
