After much thought...........

After thinking everything over and realing thinking about why I originally
bought this truck for (Camping Trailer) I realized I was rapidly approaching
mods that would ultimately make my truck less effective at towing, such
as fueling boxes and big injectors. I still have the $700.00 to spend and I can do one of two options. What would make the best towing/power combo.

#1 Take out my RV275's and replace with Mach 1.6's
These would go along with my Van Aaken V5

or

#2 Take out the Van Aaken and replace with the Smarty
This would go along with the RV275 injectors

Please no "do both" I can't aford it

I have a feeling that the mach 1.6's with the van aken will tax your clutch pretty good. I'd go with the smarty. Before you go and tow something or camping you can upload one of the more powerful programs and when your just running around doing your day to day stuff you can put it on the fuel saver mode and get better mileage. Not to mention you can read and erase codes and you can program it back to stock in minutes.

Stick the money in the bank. You'll need tires soon enough.

I'm with Blue, I'd probably shoot for the Smarty as well. It sounds like one heck of a product plus gives you some room to play. Injectors are nice but they don't offer all the different options that the Smarty does. Dorks like us look for pure power instead of everyday driveability and mileage

I'm actually kinda curious about the Smarty myself, might have to snag me up one of them bad boys!!!

I agree on the Smarty too. That would leave you with a Van Aaken you could sell to recoup the cost. That Van Aaken wouldn't fit a 99, would it?

Could switch to a comp box, and sell your Van Aaken. Turn the box down a little for towing, and turn it up some if you want a little fun when not towing. Otherwise, I think I would go with the injectors. It would just be nice to have the comp for the adjustability of it.

i like geico266's answer.

do you really NEED a smarty or m1.6's? put it towards fuel for towing the camper, or invest it and in a year get the smarty and m1.6's.

or in case the VP gives up...

Now putting money in the bank wouldn't be any fun I do
have a question about the Smarty. On the two settings that say
"soft Catcher" and "mild catcher" are they reduced timing , fueling
or both.

I vote for the 1.6's too. If your clutch has problems holding the power, just install a on/off switch in the cab. When towing, turn the VA off. When you feel the urge to play with a ricer, flip the switch on and watch them disappear in the rear view mirror.

Since I've had both injectors, I would go in a completely different direction, and purchase a reliable fuel system. No additional injectors or boxes will help you when the POS lift pump goes. Usually requires the 1500+dollar purchase of a VP AND whatever new pump system your going to utilize.
I'd also look at a bypass oil system. You already have the hotrod end covered, why not increase engine longevity.

Ok,

Diesel camper what do you say you roll out to Sacramento Raceway park on the 22nd of this month and let's see what you got!! Bring the wife and kids as it is a great family atmosphere!

There will be several other DTR guys there and it is about time you tried out your set up don't you think?

I'll even race you just so you can win one race anyway!! LOL!

Leave your RV275 injectors in, and buy a used comp(or new), and just turn it down to keep egt's in check. Or buy the new "Smarty" controller when it comes out(my choice).

dieselcamper, if you decide to sell your Va, let me know!! I haven't heard the results from testing the Smarty. I'd keep the Va and go with Mach 1.6's. That's the set up that I'm going to go with. Good Luck! If you do want to sell pm me, I'm not very far from Elk Grove.
