I think the inlet and outlets on the CR intercooler are closer to the center of the end caps, where ours are at the bottom of the end caps. Not sure if the mounting tabs are different , but I would think they're in different locations as well.

i run 3 intercoolers. I dont know why the vendors are getting such big money for these intercoolers when everywhere else intercoolers have gone down in price 10 x. So I went with two more race intercoolers and kept mt oem unit. I did temps tests but dont recall the numbers. They have been on for a few years now. I also ran them in parallel first and now in series.

The down side I had to make a large custom bumper too....and it was all less money then a typical intercooler alone. Check my photos if you want to see it, those are old....but you get the idea. I pull a 50 ft enclosed @ about 25500 gcvw with 370's and a 10 full forward in death valley....

I could tell the difference between the stocker and the aftermarket. The power comes on soon and my boost #'s are slightly lower. I rate this mod up near a camshaft/ported head mod level of impact. Its very slight change, but you like the results. The spool-up seem about the same and my egt's who know the difference. I had a hole in my stock intercooler. Turbotechnic says that there is not egt's diff. Man its a beautiful piece of aluminum, its about 1/2 thinker and way more nicer design that stock. The 3in inlet and out messed me up for abit as I had to custom build a air tube from the twins to the intercooler. Ask me if its better than stock, heck yes. I got tired of wasting boost/air flow on air leaks that my old piece did.

We use extruded tubing construction rather than bar and plate which is what the stock ones come with anyways. At 70psi we had a drop of 220deg in temp with less than 1psi loss from inlet to outlet. It picked up 45psi as well. Sounds like it is worth doing to me

I think he's claiming he picked up 45hp-- psi makes no sense.

Kantdrive, I don't me to be a nay sayer, but how can you drop 220* but only lose one psi, if you drop temps that much, the air should drop in pressure a lot more than one psi.

Most guys have tons of air leaks so the real difference is difficult to put a real # on it. A new aftermarket unit just fixes the air leaks problem. My intercooler will out flow the stocker but I'm sure I lose some spool-up as there more air needed to fill the intercooler. There is way more cooling area than the stocker. The only think that I didn't like about the spearco is their air tube boots or clamps. The bumper has to be trimmed to fit the a/c condensor and tranny cooler. Spearco intercooler boots looks like a gaser set-up and will blow off pretty fast on a high boost wot pull. I put on thicker boots and better air tube clamps and the problem is fixed. I found the the ATS intake manifold bolts leak past the washer/o-rings. I used pipe sealant on the bolt heads. I've pressure tested the entire system upto 50psi and I have all the big air leaks fixed. The little leaks are difficult to trace down.

I remember reading some where that the either 99-02s or 01-02s intercoolers are a pretty good design and should be one of the later upgrades.

I work at Adams Thermal Systems Inc. and designing and building radiators/oil coolers/intercoolers/etc. is what we do. I can get you something as small as 12 inches long by an 1 1/2 wide to something as big as what goes on the new Hercules mining dump trucks. If I ever get the time I'm going to pull some of the scrap units out and fix'em myself and mount them, see which ones help in actually reducing temps and which ones don't. Unfortunately I don't think we have anything thats geared towards performance applications, its mostly agricultural and coolers on BMW suvs and tranny coolers on Ram pick-ups.
