AFTER MARKET BS

THIS IS MY FIRST POST, SO I WOULD LIKE SOME INPUT IN SEVERAL AREAS. I HAVE A 99 2500 WITH 275HP INJECTORS,RAPTOR BOX(65HP),ALTERED TURBO, & 3 INCH SRAIGHT-PIPED DUAL EXHAUST. I WANT TO GET MORE HP TO TOW MY 10,000LB BOAT WHICH CATCHES A LOT OF AIR, AS WELL. I AM PLANNING ON USING A BLUECHIP BOX BECAUSE IT WILL WORK WITH WHAT I ALREADY HAVE. MY QUESTION IS WHAT CAN I DO IF ANYTHING TO LOWER THE EGT'S WHEN I AM TURNING THE POWER TO IT. ONE TECH TOLD ME TO TRY THE 4 INCH EXHAUST SYSTEMS, BUT I ALREADY HAVE 6 INCHES DON'T I? EVERYBODY WANTS TO SELL YOU SOMETHING WHETHER IT HELPS OR NOT.I WOULD APPRECIATE ANY IDEAS ON LOWERING THE EGT'S. CAPTDASH

Re:AFTER MARKET BS

the 4 inch systems they are talking about start at the downpipe. a dual 3 inch is def. more restrictive especially if u still have your muffler and resonator in.

to lower your egt's u should probably run an intake of some kind either a homemade BHAF or a Scotty or AFE

u said u had a modified turbo, i would think that would help reduce your egt's ???

Re:AFTER MARKET BS

I would definately talk to Rod or Scotty at Wildcat Diesel. I just recieved my Ram Air III for my '04. A good intake will help lower EGTs on a modfied truck. I don't know about the exhaust, considering you are running dual 3s.

Re:AFTER MARKET BS

I APPRECIATE THE INPUT. I AM USING THE K&N AIR FILTER. IS THERE ANY DIFFERENCE IN IT & THE SCOTTY SYSTEMS? MY RESONATOR & MUFFLER ARE GONE . THE THE DUAL CONNECTOR IS IS ABOUT 3 FEET FROM THE TURBO ELBOW. THE TURBO ELBOW ITSELF, IS 3 INCHES, SO HOW IS IT BENEFICIAL TO GO TO A 4 INCH EXHAUST FROM THE 3 INCH ELBOW. IF I AM NOT MISTAKEN, AREN'T THERE SOME 4 INCH ELBOWS THAT CAN REPLACE THE STOCK ONE?

from what i hear on the site i think you should run a scotty. and the 4" exhaust.

id like one for my 03 but no one will give me info on it

Definitely call Rod @ Wild Cat Diesel and he'll hook you up!

Re:AFTER MARKET BS

First off, I second everyone else; call Rod at Wildcat. Now if what I have heard is right dual exhaust is bad for these motors because of the swirling air exiting the turbo. Thats why you see all the big single exhaust systems. Not trying to split hairs either but two 3" exhaust pipes dont equal a 6" pipe. A 6" will flow more air. As for air filter, what do you mean K&N? Is it a stock air box with a K&N drop in? A Scotty II or Megacannon will lower EGT's. And whats an altered turbo? That could mean just about anything. What boost you run with what turbo is a big factor in EGT's.

Re:AFTER MARKET BS

I'll throw out a post on this here, and save ya a couple dimes on the phone call

With the Blue Chip Premium, stacked with the Raptor and the 275s, you'll probably be laying down 360 - 370 pony. So you definitely need more air than what a stocker airbox is capable of supplying. In my opinion, a Scotty Air is definitely on your list of items that you'll need.

On the exhaust front, the majority of your cooling comes from the downpipe, so if your dual 3's start after the downpipe, you're not getting all the cooling you're likely to need, although it is helping you. If your duals start after the intermediate pipe, then its more for looks than any functionality, and you are just running a straight piped 3" system.

On the turbo front, an HX35 properly modified with a 14cm wasted housing will be _just_ enough turbo to keep your combo happy, although a hybrid 40 would likely be a better option.
