NO airbox or prefilter required. Just a slip it in and tighten the clamp!

I'd cover the mounting nubs for the OEM airbox (on the inner fender) to keep them from wearing though, just in case.

I just put some cardboard under my BHAF and it worked perfectly well.

I only ditched my BHAF because I wanted to see if I could get a PowerCore unit to work, and there was that whole stillborn effort of mine to get Donaldson to make a big powercore-based BHAF.

Thanks everyone. I think this is going to be a tough decision between the BHAF and the AFE Stage 1. Looks like I can do a BHAF system for cheaper than the AFE, but I do love to hear that turbo whistle! Sometimes I hate it when it comes time to buy parts, because every once in a while you can't decide on what brand to go with!

If you want to hear turbo whistle take ring off, you can always put it back on when you'll get tired.
I always had BHAF on my trucks, it gives the PERFECT whistle, not too loud but enough to be heard when needed.
My next filter will be Amsoil, we'll see if it performs better than BHAF

Also if you need more "noise" look down inside right fender, approx where door hinges are located, there's a piece of foam to help reduce noise, remove it and enjoy....

I have a Fleetgaurd BHAF that has worked great for me, but I should probably replace it this summer when I get home. This time I'm going without the Outerwears cover too...it lost it's elasticity a while ago, and I've never seen it wet.
AEM sells their Brute Force HD filter with a 4" inlet by itself too...not sure how much it costs, or its flow specs, but it's reuseable and dry (no oil).

My silencer ring is already out, and it sounds like a big rig when I start manually downshifting. I tried looking up the Donaldson BHAF with its part number, but I can't find any prices on the internet for them. How much do they usually run, and what all do you need to install them?

You can get them from Napa under P/N 2790. They are a Donaldson filter sold by Napa.

I think they run about $60.

a 4" to 3" PVC pipe piece.. Stick the 4" side on the intake tube and fit the filter on the 3" side...

Sound right or is it 5"-4".. its beem some time since i bought it...

well the dimensions for the filter on the side where the piping would go says it's 4" (according to NAPAs specs), but I don't know if that's the inside diameter or the outside diameter

You don't need any PVC reinforcement. Just slip the BHAF into your intake tube and tighten the clamp-- but not excessively.

that's all? wow, thanks guys! sounds like I'll be going with a BHAF over the AFE then. Now when it comes to BHAFs, is there any one that's better than the other?

Don't forget about the AFE Pro Dry S filter that you can get with the stage 1.

I used the pvc because I was concerned about dirt slipping down inbetween the rubber of the filter neck and air hose.. as the fit was not perfect.. now I have a hard PVC pipe to clamp the rubber down to. Piece of mind.. Cheap insurance it will not rattle loose and suck unfiltered air.

Volant stepped up and did what I was trying to get Donaldson to do years ago (2005?).

This unit from Volant is IMO the best combination of flow and filtration on the market.

You'll never need to clean it and probably never need to replace it.
