AFE Aircleaner vs K-N Or Scotty
I know thw k-n is famous for letting dirt through and i would never even concider it but how does the afe compare? The filter media is similar isn't it, I have never got a look at the scotty or the afe close up. I want to buy a aircleaner set up once so i am a little cautious. I would like to hear some imput from some guys that have some miles on these setups in a dirty environment and their input on if any dirt got by these setups or not.
Thanks

Steve, What is your goal...cleanest possible air, or best flow with good filtration?
What is your future goal...HP wise?
I don't know for sure, if the AFE filters better than the Scotty II.
I do know the Scotty II filters well...and flows more air. And is cheaper...And will take you to 500 - 600 hp...and right up to (not including) Twin Turbos!

My goal is 400hp and i would like good flow with the best filtration of course. I know that a stock filter is not going to cut it. I am a little sceptical about the scotty, i can't get past the fact it reminds me of a motorcycle filter, don't get me wrong i am trying to keep a open mind. Those foam filters work great on motorcycle aplications , especially with the amount of dirt they see.I am leaning toward the AFE or possibly a homemade setup i used on my ford that worked great up to 425hp.

The UNI filters that Scotty now uses are top notch. I've raced motocross since I was 7 years old. I used to ride in monsoons and almost fill the airbox with dirt and mud. Never a speck of grime got past the filter. I don't think I could ever find conditions that would cause the UNI filter to allow dirt into my engine.

So you are saying because they are multiple layers they would perform better than the motorcycle air filters that we all know work great? I can definately see where multipal layers coated with the sticky oil would work very well.

I had the K&N FIPK on for about 2 yrs and got good air flow, but it was hot air. The plastic tube that went from the filter to the turbo would get so hot you could actually squeeze the tube in by hand. I put in a Scotty II w/hole and have never looked back. Nice cool air, very clean look under the hood and sounds awesome. I should have listen to the Senior Members the first time around

i don't know any details. i just remember him talking to someone at the last dyno about how he'd been running one for a couple years and now he's not. and since he and steve are in the same town i figured they'd be able to link up.
