Advice on installing 4k valve springs
Ok, I figure while I have my motor completely torn down I should had Rod send me a full set of valve springs (intake and exhaust) for the 4k gov spring kit and was wondering if there is anything special I need to do before or while installing these springs? Any advice will be greatly appreciated ;D.
BTW: I think Im about to get this beast up and runnin again ;D. That is after the rest of my parts get in . Thanks to everyone who has helped me along the way 8).

Re:Advice on installing 4k valve springs
Be very carfull when you add the springs and USE a good caliper to measure the tension on the springs.
Do NOT try to count the CLICKS as the difference in the springs will cause you to feel the clicks differently.
Oh yeah I almost forgot.
Get you a BIG bottle of muscle relaxers because you will need then to get the GRIN off your face when you take her out. ;D

Re:Advice on installing 4k valve springs
Ok, I just pulled my head out of my A$$ and realized I didnt state that I already had a 3k gov spring kit and all I just recently ordered was the actuall valve springs : (intake and exhaust). I guess there is no reason to worry about spring tension since there is only two groves the clip can sit in.
My next problem is figuring out how to pull the springs out and get the new ones in. Do I need a spring tensioner? If so where can I get one?

Re:Advice on installing 4k valve springs
To change the valve springs you need a GOOD valve spring compresser.
Make sure each cyl. is at TDC before taking old springs off.
Be VERY carfull not to drop valve spring keepers in places they don't belong.
Be sure to torque head bolts back to proper specs.
And to adjust valves correctly.
They must cold for a correct adjustment.
Also changing the valve springs doesent make youe 3k gov. kit a 4k gov. kit.
You still have to change the gov. springs again in the pump.
Not trying to make you sound like a bad mech.
Just trying to answer you question.
Good Luck !!

If the cyl. is not at TDC you Will drop the valve down into cylinder.

Dman: Do you know if I need new gov. springs to make my kit the 4k? Or is it just the valve springs that make the difference?
Also, how many valve springs came with your 4k kit, 6 or 12?

Re:Advice on installing 4k valve springs
I bought my kit from PDR and it came with 12 valve springs and 4 gov springs. I "think" the only difference is two more springs in the pump. the 3k kit is 3 springs and the 4k kit is 4. There is a really small spring that goes inside of the larger springs that I don't think the 3k kit has. If *I* were you I would just tighten down the 3k springs a few clicks and forget about the extra money for the 4k kit. you will have the same results.

Re:Advice on installing 4k valve springs
Thanks DM01 8). I talked to Rod today and he cleared me up on everything :. 12 valve springs, different gov. springs for the 4k kit and a bunch of other things he set me straight on .
Sounds like a good idea except I dont really plan on revving too much past 3k anyhow. I can just hear the rod bearings crying at 4k :'(.
Thanks again

They don't cry to much if you don't make them cry to often.
But shifting at about 3400 rpms with a full rack helps alot when your loaded.
Espicially with these 5 spds. 3rd. to 4th. is a killer at lower rpm's.

Re:Advice on installing 4k valve springs
Yeah that would sux. I was told my truck would only turn 3500 rpms with the gov springs. : well I can bury the stock tach well before I backed the gov springs opff a lil to make it not so jerky of ride.
