Advantage larger turbo for towing

i have "melted " pistons twice in my 01- towing each time. What is the advantage of a larger/different turbo charger? Had one person say a larger turbo would protect engine from overheating while towing ?
Just got it back from Cummins at a cost of 6500.00 with a 6 month unlimited milage warrenty. Would like to have it last longer than 6 months.

number 6 the first meltdown
number 1 the second meltdown
1200-1250 highest egt's

had Bosch 300 injecters Cummins suggested that i may have been getting to much fuel with these injecters (also have an edge )
when they did this rebuild they put new (stock) injecters in.

1200-1250* for how long? Short bursts to 1300-1400* should be just fine. But sustained temps above 1200* is risky. What boost number are you seeing?

I'm running a SPS62 from II. It's a little warm for my setup, but it spool well and has good manners. It would make a good towing turbo but don't kow if it would work with your exhaust brake

If thats the case a boost elbow would help keep temps down with your existing charger.

I think that turbo has a hard line on the wategate, so you'll have to use a turnbuckle or a J hook like you have. But I think your shy on your boost numbers for you mods. I would check for boost leaks, mine was leaking out the intake manifold gasket and a small leak in the intercooler boot. Also try a turnbuckle to make sure the wastegate is locked shut.

More air WILL protect better and keep temps down!

If your towing fairly heavy...with added fuel & timing, I would lower the sustained egt's. I feel over 1200 sustained is too much.... ok for stock fuel/timing but...... The key words are towing heavy! Others have had problems while towing at those temps with EZ & injectors.

Either turnbuckle your turbo for more boost (30+/-) or go to an HX-35 with a boost elbow for about 35 psi. With your EZ & injectors, your engine will be much safer, smoother & happier with more air.
