Adrenaline 1/4 mile results 3910 RPM!!

Went to the track last night and tried out a few different settings on the Adrenaline.

Run 1
Adr Comp PL 8 Stock Settings
4x4 2nd gear launch, 2.002 60' time
14.403 @ 94.57 MPH
No lift 3-4 shift= probably where the scary RPM's came from.
Max RPM 3910
Max Boost 47psi
Max EGT 1774*

Run 2
Adr Comp PL 8 Stock Setting but added 1* timing so 9*.
4x4 2nd gear launch, 2.133 60' time= bogged it a little off the line
14.986 @ 82.64 MPH
No lift 3-4 shift, missed 5th gear on first try
Max RPM 3675
Max Boost 47psi
Max EGT 1710*

Not sure if the timing helped the egt's or the missed gear shift.

Run3
Adr Comp PL 9 Boost scale 30, Pump Stretch 1900, TPS Pump 90, TPS Can 85, TPS Pump Min 25, TPS Can Min 20, Timing 10*.
4x4 2nd gear launch, 2.216 60' time= great launch until boot let go.
16.279 @ 82.73 MPH
No lift 3-4 shift
Max RPM 3510
Max Boost 36psi
Max EGT 1236

Truck ran like crap, I was worried I hurt the pump as it felt like the fueling was rough. After checking everything over today, I found the slipped silicone boot on my rigged turbo setup, fixed that and all is well. Apparently, the leaking connection did not allow enough boost for full fueling or the custom tune I made up while waiting to stage was TERRIBLE. Either way, truck seems to be normal today but I was worried sick on the drive home from the track.

What do you all think about the 3910 RPM on stock springs and valvetrain?

I would say that your pistons have marks on the tops of them...

Shift at lower rpm's and you will go quicker.

I was shifting around 3200, I just run 3rd a little deeper because of the huge gear ratio jump from 3rd to 4th. Add the no lift shift starting at 3400 rpm and it flares up to 3910 by the time the motor is pulled back down to 2300 or so.

I think many people would be surprised to see how many revs the stock 24 valve springs can handle under no load conditions. Lots of VP pullers that say they don't start to worry till they exceed 3800.

Admittedly I was not comfortable with the 3910 number and therefore corrected my shifting on the next two runs, just saying that a one second free rev up there probably had zero valve to piston contact.

My first time out to the 1/4 mile track a few weeks ago resulted in a best run of 15.57.

I was pretty happy to run a 14.402 only adding a Valair FE clutch vs Organic, 4x4 2400 rpm launch, and I made some custom spring clamps to clamp the front half of the lower spring pack. Not sure if the clamp helped anything but I shaved 0.394 off my 60' and over 1 second off my 1/4 mile ET.

I never heard any valve float in my truck for 2 years when I ran the Drag comp/Smarty. When Quad gave me the 4k tune, I heard them float at 3400rpm. It just seemed to appear one day out of nowhere? When I installed the Hamiltons, I could really tell a difference in the sound of the engine. I wouldn't risk it.

JLent, how many miles on your old stock springs that were floating at 3400?

I used to get scared at 3500 rpm, but I don't even flinch when I see 3570 to 3595 on the data logger.

170k when they started floating. I revved to 3600 sledpulling & racing for 4 years & never heard them float, the noise just showed up. Then one day I saw a video on the forums & heard the noise. I heard mine float not long after seeing the video & placed my order. Not worth the risk, especially when they are easy to change & cheap insurance.
