adjusting wastegte?
hey guys, newbie here im loving the informtion on this site, and i think it's going to take me where im headed with my new toy. (see sig)
im wondering whats to be done about adjusting the boost on my 01 24v. the stock turbo has a hardline on it that runs to the wastegate. i've heard stories about drilling a hole in the hard line, but im not so sure about that. i've thought about the j-hook idea, and i could build one, but im not so sure about this until i get some guages in there. any feedback here would be appreciated.

Hard line = HY. SO HY = Auto Trans! AHHH i miss HS.....haha....anyway...unless you have some sort of Timing box/fueling box/injectors. I dont see this helping much since the truck will sence the overboots condition and yank back the fuel. You need to have the fuel there to use the extra air. (BUT there is some talk that Marco said that the 2001-2002 trucks didnt defuel....but i sware i feel mine sometimes!) If you get a Timing box (This box usally has a boost fooler built into it), this would help some to get boost up a bit.
WELCOME TO DTR....now give me a ride in that Camaro!!!!

I take it you have an Automatic? I don't know much about the wastegate but the guys here can help you out. I have heard of the turnbuckle trick on a manual, But I am not sure about an auto.

thanks guys!
yes the truck is an auto. (sig updated) well, i've got an edge comp, i was under the impression that this would compensate? figred that since it reads off the map sens, and other guys have done this w/ bigger turbo's/injectors that mine would work also?
im looking into injectors down the road, but for now im still learnng. i've got 2-3 faster guys here in town to talk to but they are all hardcore 12 valvers....
oh well, we cant all be perfect.. j/k

Yes the comp will fool the boost. BUT save that cash from the injectors and turbo and put it into a Trans Trust Fund! That alone will speed you up! You will fry your stocker with that comp if you dont watch out. Do some searching on DTT, Suncost, Goends(SP??) and such to get you in the right direction......

thanks again Dan. im sure you guys get tired of hearing the same ol thing from us newbs.
i looked over suncoast's site, and it looks like their basic >500$ kit and a valve body pretty much makes enough holding power for what im wanting to do. seems like the shafts are the only thing that break in there, aside from frying clutch packs...
i think that wll work when i kill mine. i have a prety darn good transmission guy here in CC texas. think he can handle it.

The comp will fool the computer into thinking that it is only seeing 20 psi of boost but it won't raise the boost. You'll need a turnbuckle or j-hook on the waste gate to actually increase the boost.

Wow, I believe that's the nicest thing you've ever said about me Dan.
I'm running just the DTT valvebody designed for 350hp. Well as you can tell by my signature I'm pushing 398hp through it. I couldn't be happier. I have no thoughts of a tranny that won't die, that's why I'm building it this summer. But if all you plan on doing is a comp then call up Stefan at DTT and have him build ya a valvebody.
