97 3500 mods

My buddy has a 97 3500 with an auto trans and he is looking for a few performance mods. What do you guys suggest the truck is a daily driver and is totally stock right now. He just bought the exhaust parts to do a straight pipe and he bought a bhaf. He is getting a boost gauge pyrometer and trans temp gauge. I was lookin on ebay at fuel plates and I am kinda confused there are some for 30 dollars and some for 250 dollars what is the difference? I was also lookin for a gov spring kit what do you guys suggest and where should I get it all from? Thanks in advance for the help guys!!!!!

Before i got the plate though id buy gauges (trans temp, boost , and pyro). Those can be had in a combo for around 300 dollars.
Im currently trying the ebay plate and i have one from tst.. theres no between the two difference other then ones black(ebay #5 or 100 i cant remember) and ones grey (TST#8). So if i was him id by a plate off ebay (the smaller the number with the exception of the 100 plate the more fuel you get but more heat also). If he decides to go with the ebay plate i suggest getting an adjustable boost elbow that way i could adjust the boost pressure to how i wanted it which would be around 35 psi and more then that and the stock turbo starts to go out of its efficency range.

A Gov. spring kit comes down really to what he wants to do. He needs to see if he really needs to rev to 4000 rpm or does he just really need to go to a bit above 3000. With the 4000 rpm kit he will need 60lb valve springs or else you end up in valve float territory. A 3000 rpm kit doesnt need these springs but you can get them to go to 3500 rpm with enough fuel (at first you wont have that ability other then if its in park) so the springs at that point would become a suggestion for an insurance policy

For the exhaust you mentioned he was going to straight pipe it. Is he just geting rid of the cat. and the muffler or is he buying and/or building an entirley new exhaust. If it was me id build or buy at least a 4inch exhaust system from the turbo back. why? to keep egts down better

Once you get past these points it would be a good idea to let us know what else he plans to do or does with the truck. That would better help us give him suggestions as to things like turbos, injectors trans missions and etc.
