'95 12V mods?

Hello ya'll. I've got a friend that has a '95 12V Dodge truck. I actually have an '02 Powwerstroke with some modest mods on it. I was telling him about all the power you can add to diesels these days and that the Cummins was probably the easiest to get additional power from.

So my questions are these:

What is the approximate base rwhp of a '95 Dodge 12V?

What kind of mods would it take to get it to around the 330 - 350 rwhp range?

Where would I find the mods at and how much are they roughly?

I told him he could probably get to that range a good bit cheaper than I did.

Thanx for any help!

Depends if its an auto or stick. They came with different HP numbers.
However, ( I dont know the exact HP numbers) but I believe both were stock around ~160 - 165 hp.

Gauges!
Then:
1) Fuel plate. Not sure the size you would need to get to your numbers. I'll take a guess and say that a #5 or #6 plate. However, I understand that these plates are not recommended for the 94/95 years. So, perhaps you may want to look at a #10 plate. Others may have a better idea on the right plate for your numbers.
2) A 3k Gov. spring kit will also wake up the truck a bit.
3) You'll have to rework the trans. Either Auto or Stick will need to be modified to put up with those HP numbers.

After that, the rest are options you could look at for better effeciency at those HP numbers.
3) You may also look at larger injectors. Im not sure they are required to get to the mid 300's.
4) You may also wish to look at a larger turbo. Although Im not sure it will be needed. I think the stock turbo is good up to those numbers.
5) Probably should look at a 4" exhaust.

Any performance (diesel) will be able to help you out. Check with our advertisers here at DTR. Most/all of them can help you out.

I have just a fuel plate, 3k Governor spring kit, and a larger turbo housing. When i dynoed i only had the fuel plate; so im guessing i should make another 20-40hp now hopefully. So he will need gauges($300), a clutch if manual/good converter and valve body(around 1000-1500 dollars for either one) if its an automatic, and for performance id say bigger delivery valves($250); fuel plate(around $200), 3k Governor Spring kit($125), 370 injectors($300), and either a 16cm turbo housing($160) to keep EGT's a little cooler, or a better turbo(?),4 inch exhaust($300), and an air intake($250). Im guessing all this should have him at 350-400hp, and maybe around 800 or more ft lbs of torque. You can buy all this stuff at different places.Piers diesel and TST usually have decent prices; but there are also many other places so just shop around. I got my gauges at www.dieselmanor.com It wont be really cheap, but it ought to run when hes done. Good luck

First off, as said before, gauges are #1.

'95 auto would be 160hp (flywheel, not RWHP)/400 torque, and the manual would be 175hp/420 torque.

If an auto truck, it would be best to get a fully-built tranny, not just a TC and VB. It's one of those things is "Pay me now, or pay me later." Looking at $3-6k, depending on how it is set-up, and how the truck will be used.

Manual, NEEDS a heavier duty clutch.

The '94-5 trucks have the smaller fuel injection pumps, so it will take a few more parts to get to where he wants to be, than in the later trucks.

Power-

Bigger air filter.

4" exhaust, or at least put on a straight-through muffler, to reduce restriction to get the hot air out. It will also improve the turbo spool-up.

#10 plate (slide it forward)

370 marine or DD3 injectors

191 or cut delivery valves

3k GSK

At absolute minimum, a 16cm2 turbine housing for the turbo (At least if he has a HX-35 turbo, instead of a WH1C. Don't what housing is on those.). I run a PDR HX-40 turbo. I can make plenty of heat with my setup. I still need to have my pump retimed. It will help bring down the temps, plus some other good stuff. (I am around 310-325 at the flywheel or so.)

Advance the fuel injection pump timing to 15-16*.

That should get him close.
