#8 Fuel Plate in 215 pump

#8 Fuel Plate in 215 pump
The plan was (and king of still is) to purchase a #10 fuel plate to install along with some other mods. The thing is, though, a friend of mine just pulled his #8 plate out and offered it to me. Here's the question...would there be any negative effects from running a #8 plate in a 215 pump? All the 'fuel plate tables' I've seen had the #8 plate not rated on the 215 pump.
Thanks...

I think they rate up to 330hp for the # 10 since it can still be used with stock transmission, the others need modifications to tranny to get steady results.
There is nothing to stop you from installing it, in fact many here runs a #100 or a #0.
If you adjust the pump correctly you will be able to control your power with throttle pedal, you can make a #0 "behave" if you learn how to do it.

I have a 0 plate...in my 95 160HP pump, and it runs great. A little smoky when I want it to be, or when I tow, bu then I just slide back the AFC and tighten up the starwheel. You will nee tranny work, my stocker is running hot after less than a month. Once I fix the KDP caused oil leak, I'll throw in a converter and VB.

When I got my truck the PO had put in a 8 plate. I have the 215 pump, 5sp. Since it was my first diesel, I really didn't know what I had. It ran like a bat out of hades, I loved it, no smoke, more bottom end than I knew what to do with. Somewhere, somehow, someway, the truck has started to lose power and bottom torque, driving me nuts. I still have not found the problem. I now have a 10 and it does not pull nearly as well as the old 8. I put in another 8 from TST, and it did not pull as well as it did originally. I would put in the 8 and watch the EGT's. If you are unhappy with it and your friend wants to get rid of it, PM me, I have been looking for one.

No, I did not get used to the power, but I sure miss it. Over time, months, I started to notice, slowly, that the engine did not pull as hard at low RPM's (1300), it started to pull at higher RPM's (1700+). There was a definate change in the power band and loss of torque. It is still missing.
I have removed the exhaust manifold to polish and port it, no leaks there. Boost line is plugged as it leaves the AFC. I can get 35-40 psi. I know that is a bit high for the turbo. Turbo wheel is good, no play, spins free. Compression has been checked, OK. Injectors have been removed and pop tested.
The acceleration used to push me back into the seat, not anymore!

As stated
go ahead and ditch the 8 plate plan and go ahead and run the actual 100 or the Zero. With either plate at full forward position u can pretty much guarantee that you will slip your clutch, or ur auto trans will not like you. Oh and EGTS can get up there. However dont let it discourage you. The 100 plate is a gentle J curved plate with awesome top end power, I run one myself.
Bottom line is it all comes down to right foot control. If you are easy on it, it will be good to u, beat it, and well like they say, u gotta pay if you wanna Play...
Hope this helps
have a good one!

I will be glad to give it a try, as I have tried just about everything else but a engine swap. Question... can the governor arm move out of adjustment in the first place? The reason I ask is that the truck started losing power on its own, I only started messing around with it (plates, etc.) after the power band had changed so much I had to deal with it. I did check the arm when I put in the 10, but I forgot to lift the solenoid when I was doing the work, does that make a difference? Thanks for all the help.

My truck had a #8 fuel plate in it when I got it 215 pump and it ran great the best thing about it was it kept the egt's in check! It was a Bullydog plate, now I'm running a 100 and it's definetely making alot more power just got to keep your eye on the egt's while towing.
