7x or 6X injectors. What does that mean.

Ok. Having a little demlima I thought I had figured out but guess I haven't. I have been looking at injectors for my VP Power 24V until my eyes hurt. I understand the HP rating I think. For example 200 HP injectors are supposed to give approximate 200 HP over stock at the fly wheel. (if I have that wrong please correct me.) What is confusing me is these 7x12 rating and 6x18 rating. I assume the 1st number is the number of holes on the injector tip maybe??? and the 2nd number has to do with flow rates??? Could someone clarifiy this for me please? An if you could possibly tranlate a 6x18 in to approximate hp gains that would be great full as well. Thanks in advance for education!!!!!

First number is the amount of holes in the tip and the second number is the hole size like a 6 x 18 injector would be 6 holes and the holes are 18 thousandths of an inch in diameter, if I am correct. A 6x18 is more than a 250hp injector. I am running a set and they haze constantly, smoke a bunch, and hurt the streetability of the truck. I am switching to a 7 x 12 injector which is a 220hp injector and we will see how that goes. I hope this helps some, if not I'm sure others will chime in.

The hp rating is only an estimate and you have to have air (turbo upgrade) availible to burn the extra fuel. It is not a bolt on 220 or 250hp by any means. I am running a 140hp injector and am way over 140hp above stock.

Thanks for the info. It is starting to make sense now. Is there any theroy behind more holes and less holes as to application or performance. As well as the size of the holes. I would think more holes would give you better atomization but no over fueling for cooling to keep crown temps down as well as other factors?

I have no idea on whether any of that matters or not. Someone with more knowledge would have to answer that for you.
