62/12 or super b?

Seals are finally going out on the stocker. I can't decide on which turbo to get. I really want quick spoolup and I don't plan on adding a more aggressive fueling box any time soon. I'm very happy with how it runs now, just need to keep the EGTs under control. If possible could you guys post some dyno sheets if you've dynod with either turbo and similar mods? A dyno sheet will give me a pretty good idea of spoolup characteristics. Thanks.

This is also something I'd like to use in a twin upgrade eventually too (when I get around to adding more fuel).

With twins in your future, The Super B is easily adapted to the BD twins. And the 62/12 is a bit tight for the top half of a twin set up, IMO.

But you can't go wrong with either one. Both will spool faster than your present set up....and run cooler.
Have driven both and can't say anything bad either way. Sorry, no dyno sheets.

I have always thought the 62/12 is the best all around turbo you can get. I have the BD twins now though and love them. If you are planning on more you will outgrow the super B faster. The 62/12 is good way into the 500hp range. The Bd will be easy to upgrade to the twins kit or their R700 kit if it comes out for the 2nd gens. The 62/12 can also be made into a set with a kit form somewhere. The BD set will make good power but an s300/s4oo set will cost more. Just some pro's and con's to think about.

Pete--could you ever see high egts with your jammers and comp when you had the 62/12?

Also, I guess I may have confused terms......my main goal is minimal lag (but obviously the newer technology in these turbos will build boost faster too). My peak torque with the stocker is at 1800 rpm. I do not want to shift this very far to the right if possible.

I'll say yes and no. The 62/12 with the edge on kill could warm up for sure high 1500's maybe on the dyno or track. I also used my truck to tow my ford ranger and a trailer full of stuff from NC to Mo through the hills, with absolutley no EGT problems. I also liked my jammers. Alot of people will say they arent so good, but they will make some power. The only reason I puleed mine out was because I wanted to go bigger and found a set of Don's sticks for a great price. For the money you can find the jammer's so cheap if you browse the classifieds they are hard to beat up to 150hp if you ask me.

I also forgot to add. With your truck, if you do get twins,an SO pump, mach 6's and maybe a little more aggressive box and there is no reason you shouldnt be at or above 600 if you have all the little supporting mods.

I thought the only difference was a 14cm2 turbine housing on the 'special'..... No?

I think,

Super b single 57/65/14

Special 64/71/14

But I've been wrong before.

Had you though about one of garretts bb's turbos. A couple of guys are running them on here, not sure how they perform. They are a little more $ though.

The Super B is a great responding turbo. You are getting close to what they are able to do comfortably. If you are looking into twins this will seamlessly upgrade as the secondary in our twins. With the twins you will be hard pressed to see over 1250deg with it.

The Super B Special would be equivilant to a 62/14. You have to work this turbo a bit harder when you are towing with it. If you are needing that much air, you are better off going to twins if you are towing.

KantDrive, I don't mean to argue with you since you represent BD, but I am 99% sure your super B Special has a 64mm compressor and 14cm exhaust housing, not 62/14 like you stated.

Just based off of the claim of 80lb/min, it is clear that 62mm couldn't support that. Or based off of 625 HP, 62mm could not support that.

No beef, just want to make sure guys don't underestimate the Super B Special, it is a real performer for sure!!!

Special has a 71mm exhaust turbine wheel.
