6 speed auto for the 2nd gens?
Just curious if any of the aftermarket transmission companies are offering a 6 speed auto from the newer Rams that are compatible with the 2nd gens.
Just curious since I recently learned that a stock 47RE and 3.55 gears aren't the best combo for towing, especially in hills. Would like to replace my transmission in the future with a better aftermarket version, but didn't know if an upgraded 47RE is all that is available for the 2nd gens.

AFAIK you are only limited by the depth of your pocket or your tightness with a good banker. I am pretty sure that you can slip an Allison 6spd behind a 24 valve with only an adapter plate and a couple of other basic "adjustments". I wish I had the pockets for that kind of a purchase.
You can still make a really stout 47RE without huge financial sacrifice by upgrading the torque convertor and beefing up the valve body and a few of the internals. Lots of good information to be had here by searching the forums under 47RE upgrades.
Cheers!

The computer is the issue for the Allison. I've asked around best controller is the PCS unit, but your on your own for tuning.
Curious what your towing, that a 47RE isn't good enough. I run 47RE and 3.55 gears in my 02. Yes the first gear on the 47RE isn't great vs. the 68RFE.
For towing heavy, the 6.7L engine has more torque down low. I think it would be cheaper/easier to install a 6.7L and run a 47/48RE, than run to the Allison.

Another option that may or may not be cheaper is to add an Under/Overdrive to the truck. You have a 2wd by the sig so its less of an issue to run one. That way you would potentially have an 8 spd transmission.

I have used the Gear Vendors with 5spds, best, and auto. They work very well, but My personal thought is you need 3:73's or more for heavy loads. But that's where the GV is great, you have the gears for moving heavy loads and the gears for good mileage when not towing.

My truck has a five speed Allison in it. I haven't towed with it yet, but I can already tell that it will be a tow beast. It has tow haul and OD lock out. I used the Destroked computer system and it works great. Total cost was 1500 out of pocket after selling the dodge transmission. This does not include my labor. RPMs on the highway are around 1500.

With an auto 4:10's would be the best for heavy loads. The 47re isnt strong enough for any other ratio and it can barely do that. The newer 6 speeds read to much from the ecm to wurk, cuz i already thought about it for a 99 i own that unfortunately is an auto.
