Is Dodge still running an nv5600 in their 2500/3500 Cummins? If not, what kind of standard is it and does it have an overdrive...

 

It's called a G-56.

My truck with a 6 speed and the 3.73's is like an auto with 4.10's, final drive wise (so I'm told).

Doesn't bother me much cause I don't get in too much of a hurry and absolutely love the gearing for towing. Most other will chime in and complain about how it is under (or is that over?) geared. I run at about 2000 rpms rolling 62 or so, nice for hauling, not so nice if you are on a freeway or something......

 

It sounds like it doesnt have an overdrive. I want another 6 speed but I guess beggaers cant be choosers. Can you tow in 6th? and is "G-56" a Getrag?

 

I tow like no-body's business in 6th, up grades and all at about 10,750 +/- lbs. It takes some getting used to, I find myself shifting into 7th when getting up to speed on the highway sometimes............. It just sounds like it has another gear left in it.

Yes, it's a Getrag.

 

Yep...can easily pull a mini-excavator at 75mph in 6th. These trucks have no problems with that!
