6.0 vgt mounted up
Just wanted to share my project with u guys. I have a garrett vgt off an 05 6.0 powerstroke mounted up to my 97 12valve 5 speed. Headed to fleece tomorrow to have the turbo rebuilt and a 64 mm comp wheel put on it along with the vgt controller. pics to come soon!

Well that's a pretty interesting (and original) mod. I'm looking forward to hearing how well it works. I was pretty worried for a minute, looking at your pics. One of them looks just like your oil pressure line was plumbed right into your exhaust manifold. (well that's a strange way of doing that!)
Good luck with the project!

Ive been watching posts on the VGT mod since Im hoping to get some extra low-rpm boost (and fuel economy in DD) with it.
Has fleece finished the 12v controller or are you using a generic one and putting in your own maps?
Im assuming its a controller along with a map sensor and crank pickup coil for RPM?
Real interested to see what this does for you over the stock turbo. Ive got a 62/12 phat shaft on mine and the low end is awful, when combined with a cam and oversize headgasket.

they have controllers out for Borg Warner and Garrett vgt turbos for the 12 valve cummins. The he351ve controller is the one they do not have for a 12 valve yet. Somebody correct my statements if I'm wrong But yes I have their turbobrake controller for the Garrett vgt. It uses the tach signal and throttle position sensor. They told me a boost sensor and map sensor would increase the efficiency of the turbo controlling, but the rpm and throttle position inputs will work just fine. I just returned from their shop and it will be a few weeks before the turbo is done. Super nice guys down there.

Still waiting on the turbo to b finished. Got my tps bracket and sensor mounted up on the injection pump. Pain in the a$$ when it never had a tps to begin with. Had a faulty tps from parts store so still waiting on the new one to come. Keep u posted. About another month till completion hard to find time with the newborn.

My take-off power is terrible on my truck. I know part of that is the torque convertor which is made to slip somewhat below a certain RPM.
Im hoping to get a VGT on the truck so I can get fast spool and decent flow without the tradeoffs of a smaller or larger turbo.
who knows, may use it as the secondary in compounds and have the best of both worlds.
