55 mph 450 deg pyro no bost ?

What temps do you guys get with your 5.9 at 55 mph on your pyro?Running home tonight I saw with no boost and the 5.9 seems to be running cold at under 500 deg. Pulling my fiver on a hill with 36 lbs boost I can see 1100 deg on the pyro.I have about 1.5" for the 10 plate to run ahead , just thinking if I slide the plate ahead all the way would the diesel run hotter ? I might not freeze in the winter .

i saw something similar when my boost tube that goes into the afc developed a leak. but i also had no power. right now (see sig) im seeing about 670 degrees at 65 mph so 500 is not too far off, but still sounds a little cold. was also seeing lower temps when the boost tube leaked so maybe if the leak is serious enuf Ud get 450? about all i can say at this point.

Plate position has no bearing on fueling unless you are WOT. EGT's don't have much relation to coolant temp either. If you're running cool with low boost, you should be getting pretty good mileage.

can't say anything about plates cause my truck didn't come with one lol but with no plate i noticed egts r up about 50 degrees hwy cruising. also starting 1/4 throttle and down boost as egts climb fairly quickly. i find afc only holds back till 1/4 throttle....after that its all right foot.

AFC spring is too soft.

Again, plate has no bearing on cruising EGT's.

is that necessarily a bad thing? i thought most ppl liked to either buy a soft spring or back off starwheel. personally i like how it digs from 1300rpm to top. and i don't have hardly any smoke at full throttle unless im below 1000 rpm. somewhat surprising seeing as most ppl said no plate =tons of smoke. midrange rpm is totally smokeless

I do see great mpg with my 12 V . I was just think what other 12V run at 55 mph. I don`t have to watch the pyro now , but want to know what the 10 plate slid ahead would do. Should it add more power , will that power be at low rps or higher rps ?? Thanks Don T

If you want smoke, then a soft spring is what you're after. Copious amounts of smoke during spool up is not good for power. Plate only controls max rack travel. AFC controls rack travel below that. You could have the plate full forward and tune the AFC to be smoke free. You could have the plate to the rear and tune the AFC to billow smoke (I wouldn't call that tuning).

It'll allow more fuel throughout the RPM range. Your AFC will determine your low and mid range, though. If you don't adjust that, it'll feel the same until you reach full boost and the gov arm actually contacts the plate.
