500HP/1000lb TQ.... What do I need to do next ??
See my Sig for current specs.
Just learning how to "tune" diesels for performance. Bit overwhelming at first.
I bought the truck with most of the mods already done. I have no idea what injectors or DVs are in it. I believe the turbo is OEM as well (besides the WG being blocked off).
Currently, the truck runs awesome and the EGTs are always below 1000 degrees. No issues there.
It'll blow a bit of smoke below (1500 RPMs) and then it'll clear out once the turbo spools up. This leads me to believe it could use MORE fuel thrown into the fire.
Where do I go from here ?
BTW, pretty much on a tight budget and not interested in twins or other high dollar mods (at this point). Probably on down the dusty trail though!

Either your pyro is out or your post turbo with the probe or its not a hx35
That hp range and the hx35 will be 1400+*
For 500hp your going to need more fuel (plate and sticks) and a 4k governor kit will help on the rollers

Not exactly sure which turbo it has. I'll have to post up pics.
I guess I'll lower my expectations down a bit. Not real interested winding out past 3K. This is my daily driver and I need longevity out of it.

From what I have seen for good dyno numbers you will need a plate that fuels hard in the upper rpms where as your 10 has defueling, the catch to a 0 type plate is your upper rpm temps skyrocket. Your 3k governor is helping keep your temps in check by defuling for you as you get into the upper rpms (3-3400) where as a 4k will help you cheat that when your on the rollers but at the cost of huge upper rpm temps. For short bursts it usually doesn't hurt (read often) but on these old 12v, rpm is a powerful factor since our timing is static.
I would say a nice set of ddp 2-3s (not a fan of 370s, they give this hobby a bad name) and a more aggressively cut plate will up your #s by quite a bit

From what I can tell, the smoke clears out as soon as the turbo spools up. Definitely need more fuel as the RPMs climb.
Also, I'm not certain the plate is a #10. PO said he "thought" it may be a 10.
Anyway, to verify what plate my truck has in it ?

Infidel had a good post with the plate profiles overlaid each other showing the differences, hopefully some one has a link to it and will post it up.
Is your plate full forward?

I've got a set of F1 370's (Ratsun's old set), they are awesome injectors. I haven't run DDP's in a 12v, but comparing apples to oranges, the F1's in the 12v impressed me much more than the DDP's in my 24v. I have a 3k setup a little different than standard (Smokem's config from CompD), and running 0 plate. HP was lower at 334, but tq was at 1042. That was on a Dyno Dynamics dyno. Temps are a non issue, as they are for short blasts, so I don't really pay attention to them. That is with a stock AFC almost all the way back. It wasn't close to clearing up the smoke on the top end, but its relatively clean in the bottom and mid range.

Hey Tate
Yep no doubt about it Don does a killer set of sticks (got a get me a set of flux for the third gen ) Those sticks are easy to run and are in no way the same as reg 370s.
Smokems 3k set fuels a little harder down low but gives up a little (1-200rpm) in the top end than the reg set ( the way I had it set ) so I would guess that added to the ridiculous low hp numbers for you.
Tuning the afc is a big one in the smoke department for sure
What was your timing at?

Just at 15 degrees. Keeping it conservative until I get the head ringed. I have a spare 12v head that should be good, so this one will likely get ringed before the dually does.
I never tried the original 3k spring setup, so I can't compare. The 24v has a 4k kit in it apparently, they run about the same, except the 4k kit obviously pulls longer. I may call Harry this week and get the little springs and some valve springs and bump up the rpms. He's been making a killing off me lately.

Good old Harry, I wouldn't buy anywhere else
