5 inch Exhaust

5 inch Exhaust
5 inch Exhaust
I bought a 5" exhaust system including muffler for my 2003 3500, ho and they told me it had a straight through muffler, but when I looked at it, it has a baffle in the middle of the muffler closing the entire opening halfway through the muffler. I called the people I bought it from and they told me it has to have the baffle for the 2003 for the turbo to spool properly. I thought the whole purpose of a 5" exhaust was to open up the turbo. He said it would have a turbo lag without the baffle. Your comments and help would be appreciated.

Bigger is not always better brother. To much exhaust flow reduces exhaust scavaging.

Its just like a race car, a high CC head with high flow #'s will be a turd out of the hole.

Were as a low CC head that flows high #'s like a Steve Schmidt head. Creates so much velocity the torque is crazy..

A large exhaust system only looks good, the factory system with a new muffler would make more power.. Just my 2 cents..

The larger system makes more power, and lower EGT.

Re:5 inch Exhaust
Just run a 5 in. down pipe and let it dump there.
That would be ideal as far as your engine is concerned, but you may want it a little quieter.
Lose the baffle or the entire system and get youeself a new exhaust guy. He doesen't know anything about diesels.

Like said before all what he said is right for GASSERS but is not true for #2.

: Eddie : 8)
Re:5 inch Exhaust
Or just take a hole saw to the muffler and drill the center out, that well take care of the baffel, as long as it is not offset, then it is a little more tricky, but still doable. That is what we do to the big trucks. In Cal. you have to have a muffler on a semi, so we just (gut) the muffler, we you get inspected it looks like you have one but then is nothing inside it.
Heath
