Ron, youd have a real hard time getting a 5" downpipe to fit. That being said, I had to modify my 4" downpipe when I installed my 4" exhaust. I have personally never seen a 5"' exhaust with a 5" downpipe.

So are there any benefits in having a 5" exhaust over a 4" if the downpipe is the same size?
I'm thinking the flow would be the same considering that it's going through the same pipe.
Just thinking out loud here.

I think for most guys below 550 hp, the 4" dp works better because it will allow the air to flow faster than a 5" dp. The 5" flows more air but at a slower speed thus not helping the cause. 5" is not needed until the 550hp mark I believe. Most guys who run a 5" run it for the deep and loud ROAR it produces and soon I hope to be one of those guys.

Would you not want the downpipe to be 5" as well?

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I was under the impression that u wasnt able to run a 5" downpipe till the 3rd generation trucks, and even then it seems hard to find a 5" exhaust system that actually sells a true 5" downpipe.

apparantely it does. I dont have a 5" so I couldnt tell you from personal experience. But many of the Big Boys run 5" - there must be a reason why (other than just looking cool, which is why I want one)

Yeah, that is the kit that bigBRUNO4 purchased.....I should know because I was the one who helped him install it on his rig

Pretty nice system for the money, but like he stated if you want loud then save yourself some money & get it without the muffler......

Yes, Its called scavenging. Theoreticaly, when going from a smaller to larger pipe the pressure will drop in the larger pipe "sucking" more exhaust from the 4 inch pipe, this is all in theory of course, real world can always be different.

Thinkin' about going to a 5" straight pipe once I get the gauges on, #5 plate installed, and 181 delivery valves.

Is the concern with going to 5" boost building? I would think bigger would help EGTs, though. The louder/deeper roar is what I want most. I hear 'em going by all the time.
