found it...

hopefully pushrods are only about $10-12 at cummins, this one is the number 3 exhaust valve. the number 1 exhaust valve pushrod was so slightly bent you can barely see it wobble when rolling on a table so im gonna buy 2 pushrods and put it back together tomorrow.

could have been not seated right when i installed it and set the lash...then when it went down in the lifter it created too much slack, when i went WOT last night it coulda popped back out and created the stress that bent it. i def knew something was wrong. didnt take long to find it. i grabbed the exhaust rocker on #3 and it was so loose i knew something was wrong

Lucky on that one. Your opening thoughts (piston, turbo,HG) was sounding expensive. You have dropped some dough lately, hopefully this will be a cheap one.
I had that same keyboard before.

Getblown , Pretty good guess , about the flat cam lobe. Glad its just a bent push rod.

Man , you guys sould keep the rpms down on these motors they arent high rpm L88 427 bb chevys that you can wind up. They are truck low rpm work motors.

Get a race car to blow up. Use your truck to haul it to the track!
OK Ill shut up!

while they are definately not high rpm motors his is a vp 24v so it is definately not capable of spinning high enough to hurt itself. 60lb springs and hardened retainers are all haisley was using in curts truck up until this year and it was spinning 5500+ I spin mine to 3800 all the time Scheid has spun 7200 before windowing the block rumor has it.

when it started making noise i had just pushed over the 3k rpm mark, i could see this happeneing more often if lots of guys had redline boxes turning 4k+ in the 24v's

when you do your overhead set again , take a look at the screws and make sure they are all about the same lenght or threads showing on all the cylinders. one way to make sure the push tube are in the lifter socket, if they are not the same thread showing. then something is not right. most likely flat cam

it was a bent pushrod...thank god it wasnt an injector tip because that would have meant serious other damage

Man I think you and Bobcat are fighting for the most breakage in the shortest amount of time. Glad it wasn't anything to bad. Your truck is going to rock when you get it back together.
