47RH Upgrade Questions
I have a 1995 2500 4x4 with the good ole 47RH. I just bought gauges, 370 marine injectors, 3k GSK kit, and will be getting a torque plate and the timing adjusted and in the future delivery valves and a turbo upgrade of some sort. I pull around 13,600#s on average of one to two times a week. I allready have a dunrite valve body and the truck has about 101,000 miles. What should I do with the trans next, just put a really good torque converter in or try and get a full built trans? If torque converter then whats the best for the money, if built trans whats the best for the money? I don't think I will be able to spend more than $2000 and would like to spend less than that. Any and all opinions would be great!

already having the Dunrite valve body i would go with a Dunrite torque convertor.Other things can use help,like a heavier front band and different band apply struts.The overdrive needs beefed up with more clutches like the newer transmissions.If you can do the work yourself you can probably stay within your budget.I used Dtt parts and did my own rebuild and have approx. $2000. in it.All the power you have now will toast your convertor.

I had the transmission fully rebuilt at 170K and added the Dunrite VBkit and single disc TC, so far I've been very happy with it. It handled 370's, 191's, 0plate, and a HX40 just fine.

With all the mods to your engine I would try to save some more money and go all out and get a complete built tranny by one of the top builders like Dtt, Dave Gorend, Suncoast etc. It seems like a big expense but no worries about tranny not being able to handle the load or the power afterwards.

Most would suggest matching converter, etc from same vendor. There can be such disagreement on this subject. My opinion based on over 30 years in the trans business that DTT has the best complete system. I had installed most of the other vendors out there before I started installing DTT. I feel the overall driveability and durability is superior. I pulled a competitor converter and valvebody with less than 1000 miles on them out of my personal truck to install the same from DTT after installing my first one in a friend's truck. It was that much better. I have a number of DTT transmissions out there with high miles. Some as old a six years.
