47RE Performance Rebuild - Farm Boy Country Style
Alright guys I think I'm ready to rebuild my 47RE and I'm going to do it myself, well and maybe let some friends help too. I've been in a few GM tranny's but never Mopar.
I'm looking at replacing all the clutches and probably doing a billet input. Might also move up to a Goerend Triple Disk and Valvebody. Do you guys think it's worth running all high performance clutch kit with added disks or will stocker ones work? How about upgraded bands? I have some DTT billet parts too [servo, accumulator]. I was thinking about getting their full rebuild kit if I kept the converter and valve body. I hear some people talking about just upgrading the clutches in the direct to high performance. Power output would be 500-600 max. HX35/HT3B twins would be the biggest setup. I need something I can tow a gooseneck with some weight on it.
What odd tools are necessary to get this build done right? I know they sell tranny tool kits, but I would really just like to buy them seperate. I am pretty sure I'll need snap ring tools, inch/lb TQ wrench, clutch compressors? regular hand tools, but what else?
Let hear it guys. I'll be doing my best to document this along the way.

you will need all good set of basic tools, the primary specialty tool will be the OD spring compressor which can be had off ebay for $107, if you plan on upgrading the low roller clutch that also requires a special tool

I talked to DTT a little bit and I didnt get alot of what I thought was good info. Maybe I wasnt talking to the right person, but I was told I was wasting my time to send my VB and Converter to them to get refreshed because they dont do anything with old technology. But they were willing to sell me their $4XX rebuild kit and new seals for my billet servo and accumulator. I would really like to have my converter refreshed at the very least since I can clean out the valvebody, but I might just buy a new converter if I cant get someone to make mine like new again. A guy gets stock ones rebuild locally, but I dont know if a stock lockup clutch will hold what I want it to. Idono... I feel like I'm getting swept under the rug by the people who's trans parts I use. Goerend seems to stand behind his work and parts more than anyone, I probably should have went with him to begin with.
