47RE parts
Hey guys, I have a third gen with a 47RE and i want to beef it up with either Goerend parts or Suncoast. The problem is though, i don't know what parts to get other than a valve body. I plan to get a smarty and i don't think the stock tranny can handle it. I posted this question on the third gen page but know one answered so i thought i'd put it on here since the 47RE is mostly used on the second gen. trucks. thanks guys

If it's in good condition now, a valve body and new converter will make a big difference. Goerend is a good man to deal with. What are your plans and goals for the truck hp wise and daily uses.

3rd gen is 48RE (prolly why you got no response on a 47RE in the 3rd gen forum) - you got the good stuff already - if the trans is hi-mileage, you should opt for a rebuild - check over at PATC for more info and options - plus, you need to create a sig, so members will know how to help you.
Wanna know how that works? Your sig may list a '04.5 2500 and some goodies, plus the 47RE - first question will be "what are you doing with a 47RE in a 3rd gen - are you sure it's a 47, not a 48?". Etc..............
Word up, dude........

It has a 47RE because it is a standard output. I bought the truck used and it has an intake and a four inch exhaust. The paperwork shows that the trans was replaced already which tells me that the 47RE may be marginal for the engine. I found somewhere that the input torque rating on the 47RE is 450 foot-pounds which scares me cause the engine torque output is 460 foot-pounds. My plans are to add a smarty with a Fass lift pump.
